2003 Accord Factory GPS Navigation Problem
I just bought a 2003 Accord with the the navigation package and I am having a little trouble with the navigation system. The problem is, in the morning when it is cold and damp out the GPS system reboots several times over and over again and then ultimately begins to work normally. This only happens when the car is cold and has been sitting off for at least a few hours.
I called the Alpine support line and they said it is a problem with the DVD drive in the trunk and that I can send it in for repair at a cost of $150.
My Question: Has anyone had this problem? Any better ideas for fixing it without having to give Alpine a bunch of cash?
On the same note, I was wondering if anyone knows how I can acquire a new DVD for the system without having to spend the $189 from Alpine (that price is a joke). I would like to try a new DVD as the one that is in the drive shows some minor scuffs.
Kindest,
Dustin

Re: 2003 Accord Factory GPS Navigation Problem
Minor scuffs can cause weird problems with the DVD drive. You could always take the DVD to the local video/ used CD shop and get them to refinish it for you 5-10 bucks. ALthough I doubt cleaning the DVD will resolve your problem that is a much more affordable solution to the scuffed problem. I checked for any service bulletins related to your issue, but did not find any. 150 isn't that bad of a price for repair. Esp. compared with the price of replacement. The unit is easily removed so no labor costs.

I am having a similar problem. Does getting a new DVD fix the issue?
I have an 2003 Accord EX with the built in navigation system. I bought the car new back then. Starting last week, every time I turn the car on, the navigation system appears to reset itself, like it does when the battery is disconnected. The screen says "Please wait, downloading software" and then runs through a full reset process including locating itself with the GPS. I get the grey screen with red text that says leave engine running, don't move the car, this may take up to 10 minutes, etc. I sat through the whole process several times and still each time I turn the car on, the navigation goes through the same process. This just started last week out of the blue. It's worked fine up until that point. The cd player and radio continue to work fine.
Any thoughts? I can post screen shot pictures if that would help. Let me know if I can provide any additional information. Thank
