Date of manufacture?

Good day all. I'm old(46) and just bought my 16 year old son a 96 EX coupe. It is suppose to have a newer engine. The number on it (the block) is d16y8 1564781. Can anybody tell me the date of manufacture of this engine? The engine also has a set of DC sports headers 4-2-1. Any other info would be nice. I' new to the import performance side of things. The d16y8 is stock in the 1996-2000 ex models so it cant be much newer if its even new at all.

I have a question now, if the heat shield is on, would it block that? jw.

Possibly, also, if your willing to crawl underneath the car. On the intake side of the block, lower left right above the oil pan is the VIN number of the engine. Should be the same as the car if its the original motor. Its tricky to find especially if the engine is dirty. Its a green tag.

If it is different than the chassis VIN, you cna go to this website to check the info from the VIN.

There are others that may be able to give more info, but that one came in handy when I bought my swap motor.
