89 accord alternator replacement
Friends alternator went out and im helpin him out with it. only way we've heard to remove the alternator in the 89's is to remove the front axel. now it could be just me, but i feel like there should be another way thats atleast a little easier/less drastic to get it out. Any ideas would help, and btw i already tried google, and search on HT and found nthing. most of the online pdf repair manuals don't talk about alternators so thats for all the flamers.

Re: 89 accord alternator replacement
Axle is the best way IMO. Some people seem to have some other ways figured out, but the axle is the most direct. Pull the spindle nut, drop the lower control arm, and it's out. I mean, it's not really that much work to pull the axle.
There might be some way to squeeze it up around the intake manifold or some ****. If you can make that work, more power to ya.

The last time I did one I pulled the driver side axle. have a drain pan ready and some trans fluid to put back in when you're done

All you have to do is remove the air filter housing and all of the intake tubing. Take and remove all the bolts holding the alternator on. From above (Drivers Side) reach down grab a hold of the alternator and pull it up through the top of the engine compartment. I have an 89 Accord LXi and figured this out the hard way. The first alternator was bad. I looked at the engine compartment and said there has to be an easier way. Good luck and don't forget to disconnect the battery.
