Re: SHG is back! Easy's EP3 goes under the knife...
I'm really just looking to make the cabin environment more relaxed. Hearing road noise in my commuter is rather over-rated. Its not a fast car at all, so it needs something to make it special. I figured making it look and sound nicer, whilst being a solid commuter car, was a solid goal. I'm talking with the guys over at Raamaudio for the sound deadening I plan on using. It should make the xB rather quiet inside. I'm still tossing the idea of upgrading the speakers, but I'm waiting until I finish the interior deadening before I make that financial commitment. I'll still probably pick up the Bazooka tube that was made for the xB, though. Just for the funsies!
The EM2 may get some sound deadening as well, but I'm not sure how much noise will be in the car after all the work I have in store for it. Maybe it won't need it.

My cousin has an XB and the stock system is pretty damn good. I can imagine it would be even better with the car insulated to clean up some of the harmonics and cancel out some of the road noise. If youre still doing the tube frame from on the Em2 I cant imagine it will be the kind of car that needs to be comfy
As for the EM2, I'm still wanting the car to be road capable when all is said and done. I whole-heartedly want the car to be able to drive cross-country when its all done. It'd be far for more fun to drive it out your way, then trailer it.

Haha well here you go then
Got the other door panel insulated and installed the last part of the Bose system. Also spent some time tuning the EQ and DAMN. It sounds so clean and crisp. Bass is clean and punchy from that nice tiny sub and best of all no rattles!
.
And here's a teaser of the new valve cover

Hah yeah I realized that wasnt gonna happen last spring lol. The plan then became to just build the tranny this winter and run it on the A3 for another year or so, but now that doesnt even look like its going to happen until spring time.

Love the tread man! I have an SSM EP as well! You've given me so much inspiration with this build!!! I have a question: with the DC5R LCA did you use stock axles?

That's a really nice audio install.
I ran rca's back to an amp in the trunk and loomed a new harness back to the headunit to connect to the factory speaker wiring in my ep; I was going to do sound deadening but my cars so loud it would never make a noticeable difference anyway.

Theresa and I are actually on our way up to Ontario (near toronto) to get the dc5 roof skin . Staying in niagra falls tonight. When are you getting back?
Thanks man. After I did the sound deadening the exhaust drone was actually alot better, even with the spec3

What type of sound deadening mats are those? How did you know where to place them on the door panels? Or did you just kind of install them where you saw fit?

Its factory RSX Type S sound deadening that I got from our race car build. I just placed it on large open surfaces that I could easily cover with the mat. I also figure the larger the open surface, the easier it is for sound to bounce off of it and resonate. Seems to have worked pretty well so far

I'll have to give that a try...is it heavy? I have a k20a2, dcrh and 3" kteller piping with a vibrant resonator as a muffler; anything would help at this point lol

DOW Beta seal urethane. I used it just cause I already had it around and it seems to work excellent for just about anything.

Re: SHG is back! Easy's EP3 goes under the knife...
Now that the audio is pretty much done (still need an extended Ipod cord before I put the interior all back together) I moved onto some issues that needed attention in the rear.
First, I was getting some slight tire rubbing on the rear bumper tabs and bumper on hard compressions so I did some massaging to get a little more room. First I trimmed some material from the bumper lip leading to the quarter panel where the tire was rubbing:
.
.
Then I grabbed some new screws with a smaller head (stock on the left)
.
.
Installed the new fastener and trimmed back the tab as far as possible. All said and done I got about another 1/4" of clearance for the tire to tuck up in the fender well. Now I have to do the other side, remove the bumper and touch up the bare metal with some POR.
.
.
Next up are the rear upper arms. While taking them out to start mocking up a spherical kit for them I noticed that they are still contacting the frame under hard compression. Not as bad as my old SPC arms but still making contact none the less.
.
.
Here is where the arms are hitting. The larger mark on top is from the SPC arms I was using in 2010, and the smaller mark under it is from the Buddy Club arms.
.
.
Ill be modifying the arms so they no longer contact the frame, and Ill also be starting to put together sphericals for them. The angles that these upper arms operate at are rediculous, and are put under tons of stress because of the bushings being stressed all the time.
