Default Bottom D16Y7 non-Vtec with Top D16Y8 Vtec.

Will these work?

Right now my 91 civic DX running D16Y7 non-vtec with PM6 ECU and SI tranny.
Short story, somebody wants to give me D16Y8 VTEC head,.

Now will these work? or do I have to get new ECU? If it does, what ECU do i need?
Also do i need anything else to make these work?

Many thanks.

Search for MINI-ME
Yes, that combo will work.

You would want to use an ECU that has vtec control because the PM6 doesn't do it.
OBD0 PR3's, OBD1 P28, or any OBD1 converted to support vtec (P04).

Best would probably be the P28 since the fuel maps are going to be pretty close right out of the box.
You will need to convert to OBD1 if you use an OBD1 ECU.

very popular swap .. easy swap
use you stock y7 throttle body ...and swap over the throttle cable rotor from the y8
you will need to add some wires .. there are great d.i.ys all over the net

The only problem with the P28 is the timing maps are different. Y8 has a totally different combustion chamber compaired to other d motors. It will run but not perfect.

Why would you use a Y7 throttle body for an ECU that reads a 2 wire IACV?
