97 Accord Auto Transmission problems
I've recently replaced my transmission because the previous transmission was slipping pretty bad until the car became un-drivable. When the new, (salvaged) transmission was put in the car, it threw a P0118 code for the Coolant Temperature Circuit. It would die when I'd start it and the RPM's seemed rather high before it would shift. We messed with loose clips on the wiring harness and reset the code and the code hasn't come back. Now the car starts fine now but the transmission still seems off.
Symptoms:
The shifting isn't smooth. It's almost as if it jumps when it shifts. It also sounds as if the engine is revving hard despite what the RPMs read and that my pushing the gas pedal doesn't match with the car's output. It also will completely miss 4th or 5th sometimes if I give it too much gas. I was on the freeway and it wouldn't go past 40mph and the RPMs were going through the roof until I took my foot of the gas and let them drop almost completely before slowly accelerating again. Could this just be the salvaged tranny has a bad torque converter or could it be some kind of relay or something or could I really need to replace the Coolant Temperature Circuit? The car also seems to shift much better if I baby it slowly with the acceleration. This is a little similar to what went wrong with the last transmission before it became un-drivable so I'm a little confused.
