Street Race Turns Fatal

Many charges were filed against "Crazy Mo" after a street racing accident on October 8, 2001. Cops say he fled the country after he failed to appear in court for his trial.
Mustapha Mohamed Atat is -- and always has been -- a thrill-seeker. He lives life on the edge, and takes on dangerous hobbies. Cops say "Crazy Mo", as he is known on the streets, has been dealing drugs for quite a long time -- long enough to bankroll his other favorite hobby, street racing.
On October 8, 2001, authorities say that "Crazy Mo" instigated a street race with Aaron Reynolds near Lincoln Park. The two were allegedly both driving modified Mustangs with a bet of $12,500 at stake for the winner of the race.
Witnesses say that Atat and Reynolds were racing at speeds of more than 100 mph when Reynolds' car went out of control, crossed a sidewalk and struck three people. The accident killed Denise Jones and injured Eric Draw and Rodney Ricks.
Cops believe that Atat is still heavily involved in the drug trade, and conducts his business in various locales such as Hungary, Dubai, Lebanon, Mexico and Canada.

Mustapha Mohamed "Crazy Mo" Atat poses next to one of his cars used in street racing. The expensive hobby has led to second degree murder charges against him for participating in a street race that cops say led to a woman's death.
Cops charged Atat and Reynolds with second degree murder, failure to stop at the scene of a serious personal injury accident and two counts of felonious driving and drag racing.
During a raid at Atat's residence, police were surprised to find that, although Atat received welfare, he owned a large home and several luxury cars.
Prosecutors say that Atat has failed to appear in court, and has not been seen since.
Atat Goes International

"Crazy Mo" Atat is wanted for murder, because cops say he instigated a street race that resulted in a fatal crash.
According to police, Atat has been traveling around the world using a fake passport. At one time, he was known to have been using one in the name of his dead brother, but cops no longer believe he uses that name.
Cops believe that Atat is still heavily involved in the drug trade, and conducts his business in various locales such as Hungary, Dubai, Lebanon, Mexico and Canada. Cops say that any drug dealings he has with the U.S. are performed outside of the country to our neighbors in the north and south.
For a long time authorities speculated that Atat was hiding out in Lebanon. But now, new pictures show him racing cars in Dubai. We do not have an extradition agreement with the United Arab Emirates so cops cannot go there and arrest him. To add insult to injury, Atat was seen on a television documentary racing cars and seemingly enjoying his freedom.

seems like bullshit to me that he is wanted for murder for being in a street race, it's not like he caused the accident to happen. or hit someone that was killed. The other guy lost control of his car and killed the people.

you wouldn't think that if it were one of your family members that got hit or killed. they were both involved in an "illegal street race". it's kind of like if your buddy robbed a bank while you sat in the car, you are still guilty by association. thats why they call it "accessory".

yeah, the guy that actually hit those people was locked up, but as the old saying goes, it takes two. that's why "Mo" was charged too.

very true. that's why here in Ga, if you get caught "watching" a street race you can be arrested and lose your license for at least 6 months.
