2004 Accord V-6 Strange noise
Hi All,
Thanks for reading my post. I am having an issue with my 04 Accord.
The car is making a strange noise. It sounds like it is coming from the drivers side engine compartment. The sound is almost like a grrrrrr sound and it only happens intermitently for a few seconds then it stops. It seems to be happening a lot more lately and it has me worried.
I took it to the honda dealer and they had no idea what it was. I then took it to a local mechanic who I have known for years, he is a very good mechanic. He seemed to think it had something to do with the overdrive on the trans.
Anyone familiar with this noise?

A noise over the internet....this is always fun
A bit more info on "when/how this happens" would be nice.....only when X happens, only when I take an X turn....only when I start the car after it has sat for X amount of time...
Want to help...please don't take the post the wrong way

Hi Lost Again,
I did not take your response the wrong way. I appreciate you trying to help.
The problem with this noise is that there really is no rhyme or reason as to when it happens. The only thing i can tell you is that it only makes the noise when the car is in motion. It could be cold or hot. The A/C could be off or on.
A friend had mentioned an overdrive motor on the trans that has been known to fail.
Thoughts?

Again, a noise on the net is hard....your "grrrr" is my rattle.
Anyway to get a video with sound and post it to utube or someplace like that?
Some of these, mainly newer, have and issue with the VTC making a noise.
I would think an overdrive/lock up of the converter would only happen at highway cruising speeds.
Just for giggles, check the oil and trans fluid (assume auto) levels.
On a somewhat nice day, have the HVAC unit off and see if the noise still happens? Some of these will run the AC even if you have the heat on.

I have a similar noise, lasts about a second maybe, and usually happens within the first tenth of a mile driving. Almost sounds like the anti-lock brakes priming, a sound my old '95 Accord used to make.
