Hey I don't know if this would be in the right forum, but help me out here. So I'm trading my car straight across to some other guy pretty soon here and I was wondering what the process was for that. Could someone help me out and let me know step by step what to do? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Well first make sure it is paid for and no liens are on it, clean title, and if it is rebuilt title make sure the work was completed correctly..and check everything. make sure you get bill of sale and all items in writing too, Match all engine vins to frame and make sure it wasn't flood damaged too, also check carfax. I would start with that...

make sure the car is what you want and its paid off, but what i think your asking for is you both need to right bills of sale stating you traded your car or sold each other your cars for 1$ and then you both sign the paper and both get a copy so that way if he tries to screw you over you have a paper stating he agreed to it

^ that and it would help to have a few witnesses to the signatures and agreement. then, take your titles to a notary and tell them you have bought each other's cars, or if your state has tax loop holes that you would like to exploit you could say they are gifts to each other or were sold for $1, etc.
