Default rear mounted intercooler?

has anyone ever tried this? Turbo + road course seems to be a recipe for overheating. But with a small turbo and realistic power it would be wicked.

with a FMIC, proper air flow to the rad is pretty much completely blocked. This isn't helping with the extra heat already being generated. There is plenty room for a 10x30 intercooler in the rear bumper, pain to run intake lines under the car. Another downside would be that the intercooler would now get less flow... although people run diffusers. Maybe thats a load itself... But maybe with a full sized alum. rad, a decent oil cooler and this goofy setup it might ok.

Living in Edmonton, canada I've found that putting insulation in front of a rad in the extreme cold helps keep the motor run warm, but then overheats when the snow melts.

input?

Default Re: rear mounted intercooler?

Only if you have a rear engine car like an MR2 does this work, and even then w/ a Tom's intake straight to the intercooler.

I'm not seeing where you're coming from in some ways. Many of us have circuit raced for years w/ a front mount, full radiator and thousands of laps. radiator has a bit of blockage, but a good quality radiator will do just fine. The intercooer in the rear on bumper would also affect aerodynamics for the circuit, and depending upon the type IC could easily disrupt the dynamics of the suspension used.
