D16Y7 Build
Good morning gent's
We are running an EK in the production class of our local rally scene. We need to build our new engine within specs and I was hoping you guys could give us a hand.
Here are the rules :
- No boring/stroking
- No swap (obviously)
- Must retain stock I/M and E/M and TB (yes, all that wonderfull crappy stuff)
Basically, we're allowed to do pistons, rods and cam.
What are the best bang for the buck cam and pistons for the D16Y7.
Keep in mind that the engine will be bouncing off the rev limiters for hours on end so no 13:1 comp ratios or skyhigh power band cam.
Thank you

Re: D16Y7 Build
by far the p29 pistons! what fuel are you running? These are standard honda/acura pistons which will bump your compression up to like 13:1 +/- depending on the thickness of your headgasket. I would run e85 and a walbro pump with 310cc minimum injectors if you choose the e85 route. Wither way stock rods would suffice, but some eagle's, scat or fjt's will be better. cam route i'd call up bisi and get one of his cams, he's the man when it comes to sohc power.

Re: D16Y7 Build
I would love to know what your suggestions are Justin. I don't take it as you trying to sell parts, just would like to know bc I have a 14:1 e85 d16z6 with a built head but I have a zex stg.II cam in it and was wondering whether you could point me towards a better all motor cam. Leland

Can you use stock IM's and EX from similar stock motors? The OEM Y7 mani is garbage, it has no plenum, and the stock ex manis are famous for cracking right at the O2 hole

Re: D16Y7 Build
that's what i was thinking. even with the pistons and crazy head work and valve train upgrade that intake manifold is going to choke the life out of that motor.

Yea but rules are rules and it can be tuned to work properly he just wont see the full potential of the set-up until he gets some itb's or the like.

This isn't ''drag wars'' at the Ol' air strip guys.
If it was up to us... thats the Civic we would be running and we'd take all of your cheddar:
We would'nt lose our time with the D16Y7 engine. But we are stuck with it and thats all.
Thanks for all your help.

sr20? lol...never seen something like that before. Is this the same platform with the y7 swapped in? Any planning done based on the advice above for the build as of yet?

Re: D16Y7 Build
id leave the stock pistons in it and mill the head head for how limited you are. Shave .04" off the head and use the cam. Than do some port work to the manifold and hopefully you can swap to a header or atleast an EX exhaust manifold. If not that try to prt the y7 piece all you can also.
