Hey I was wondering I am kind of new to the Honda scene and what intake and exhaust system would be good yet affordable for a 2000 civic DX hatchback with a complete stock setup

well im looking to do some performance upgrades nothing super serious but more of the basic things like intake and exhaust suspension rims tires and possibly some engine work and im looking to spend like maybe 2-4 for intake and 5-8 for exhaust.

Edelbrock Performer X intake manifold, $350 or less.
AEM short ram-air intake, $150.

$500 for both brand new, or a bit less if used. That should take care of the intake expense.

Apexi World Sport 2 exhaust, $500 shipped. That will leave you $300 for an exhaust header.

So with this $1200 you will have some added noise, throttle response, shiny new parts to be proud of, and perhaps some pick-up in power. I, personally, just pieced together a complete wet nitrous oxide setup for $220 instead.

ok, that's good. alot of people new to the scene (and some that aren't) pull up ebay immediately and buy the first $100 tsudo exhaust they find. let's just say you get what you pay for. Not all things on ebay are bad, just do the research first.

For exhaust, what style do you prefer? I myself prefer an angled exit exhaust.

If that is what you are looking for, from experience i can recommend you these exhausts.

1.) Megan drift spec, cost is about $350 shipped and is all stainless steel. sounds awesome and is about medium in terms of loudness. I've had it on my b16 turbo 4 door and my d16 turbo coupe and it sounded, looked, and fit great. I also had it on my 2000 DX hatch and same story, my only complaint there was that i couldnt fit my ITR rear swaybar on with how tight the bend of the exhaust was.

2.) Buddy Club Spec III, cost is about $550 and is all stainless steel. i have it on my ITR and it is EXTREMELY loud, especially with a header and no cat. I don't necessarily recommend this exhaust for a DD where the noise may get on your nerves and draw unwanted attention.

3.) Apexi N1 evolution, cost is about $500 and is all stainless steel. I have it on my 240 in the 3.3" form (yeah i know, it's a nissan ) and it is very modest as far as loudness, which is surprising for such a large diameter piping exhaust. It's a nice change of pace becaust it has a nice tone cruising, and sounds awesome at WOT as well. Fitment on it is spot on, zero complaints.

For an exhaust with a standard exit may we say, i recommend the Apexi worldsport exhaust, everytime i've heard them i have never heard one sound like ****, and the tip size is very small so it doesn't look ricey at all.

For an intake, i've had AEM, Injen, and even standard ebay no name intakes. The best intake i've had and for the money hands down is a no name ebay 3" short ram intake tube, with a blox velocity stack and a 6" k&n filter. the total cost is about $100, which is far less than many name brand intakes but will definetely outperform.

I have some parts I am about to take off. I blew the motor in my 99 Hatchback.

I have a iceman intake, new magnaflow cat and I might sell the OBX exhaust as well.

I am goin got do a motor swap and do not need these parts any more Just PM if you want pics or anything.

I also have other suspension stuff as well.

Now it says for the Edelbrock intake manifold it will take some shaving of the gasket for D16Y7 which i believe is the engine in the 2000 dx hb. Is that true?

unless you boost ad series motor they dont make power just get something that sounds nice and is priced affordably .

Just get a short ram from ebay. They sell Mr.Gasket Co ones on ebay for about $50 shipped. Get a Edelbrock or SK2 Intake Manifold or just get a nice D16Y8 Manifold. Get a Heat Sheilding intake manifold gasket and do the TB heater bypass (unless you live in a cold climate). If your car is a DX its Non-VTEC. You can pickup a D16Y8 head pretty cheap and wire up VTEC and you will get a nice little power boost. Just make sure to get a P2P ECU to run the motor. The Apexi WS2 sounds nice on stock motors.
Make sure that you dont have emissions where you are or you keep the stock header because on the DX model the cat is on the header, so changing th header will remove the cat.
If emissions isnt a problem pickup a decent header from ebay (only if you know how to shop on there), or get a DC Sports header or something along those lines.

Now im just trying to get this straight is it worth it to get an intake manifold or is worth more to take the money and invest in something else.
