Re: TPMS Question for 08 Civic Si
I have a TPMS question, last night my rear driver side tire got a nice cut on the inside sidewall thans for a rock or brick that was on the road that I didn't see untill it was too late =( So i had pull the spare and put it on, now my TPMS light is on, I plan on taking to Sears and getting my tire replaced. Will I need to go to the dealer to get the light turned off ? and how much will that cost me? Can any other shop do it ?

Re: TPMS Question for 08 Civic Si
they can be applied to another set, i had my oem sensors swapped to my c10's when i had put them on.
but you must choose your tire store carefully because some arent too familiar with tpms and they can break the sensors, which cost about 30 bucks a pop

Re: TPMS Question for 08 Civic Si
There is no need to go to the dealer, once the spare tire is removed and the stock tire is replaced the light will go off on it's own.
Right now the system is only reading 3 sensors. Once the forth is repaired the system will read all four and the light will turn off.
This is assuming that the sensor was not damaged during the whole process.
Also I've read that VSA can still be disabled with the TPMS light on. I have never tested it myself though.

I will have to disagree with the TPMS light statement.

Re: TPMS Question for 08 Civic Si
And the above answers are correct, the system is reading 3 sensors, therefor the TPMS light comes on indicating that there is an error somewhere. Put the 4th sensor back with a new tire and the light will go off within 20 miles.

Re: TPMS Question for 08 Civic Si
This is INCREDIBLY INCORRECT information. The TPMS light has nothing to do with VSA. I would know because I have an aftermarket set of wheels on my car and the TPMS light has been on for 10k miles and I still can control my VSA. Do research before you tell people things!

and if the tpms unit itself malfunctions, you do need to go to the dealer.

then i got it fixed and rolled the spare back home and on the way home, the ! light wasnt on. theres a certain distance the sensor has to be in for the tpms to pick it up and the trunk, is not far enough away. when il4 dyno'd my car, it was a good 4 feet away from the car and the ! light still didnt come on.

and that is correct because i tried it myself. i took air out of my rear tire until the light came on and the vsa was still active even when i pushed the button to disable it.

Re: TPMS Question for 08 Civic Si
Yes, you can. Mine are inside my Gram Lights with 3M tape. Wanna know what holds them in the stock wheel? The valve stem, that's it. I watched my old wheels be disassembled so they could scavenge the TMPS sensors and put them in my new wheels. The valve stem is bolted to our wheels, not pulled through. The 3M tape is to take up the space as there is a bit of a gap when mounting them to after market, or older wheels.

i just got an 08 SI and it has the HFP 17" rims on it. i drove for about half a day with no Problems and now the tpms light is on. i read about it and im going to take it back to the dealer for a check up on tuesday (day off) and will see what they say!
it should all be covered b/c is a new purchase. i'll post the results.

Re: TPMS Question for 08 Civic Si
Okay, for those of you wanting the light off, and not having to put them in your spare or other wise, here is the next best option.
Go to your local hard ware store and find some PVC piping. It only needs to be big enough to fit the sensors in. You are not building a potato gun here.
Make sure each end is threaded. By the appropriate end caps with some Teflon tape.
Next stop at your local auto parts store and buy a single valve stem.
Cap off one end of your pipe, and put your sensors inside. Make sure you use the Teflon tape on the threads.
With the other cap, drill a small hole to fit the valve stem through. This step is very important. You want to start with a small enough hole that makes getting the valve stem through hard, making the seal very tight.
Twist on your cap with the valve stem, add 30psi to the pipe, throw it in your trunk and forget about it forever.
BTW, it is illegal to sell a car with a disabled TPMS system. It was put in affect due to the Tread Act a few years ago.
Good luck everyone.
