y80 tranny any good
hey this guy is saling me a y80 tranny i never heared of it is it any good he said it the japan ls tranny and is it like the usdm ls tranny. im gooing all motor with a built LS motor

Y80 is just the transmission case code, which doesn't tell you anything since both GS-R's and LS' have it. But besides that, you would be better off looking into a GS-R transmission. The LS one sucks since the gears are too long.

so there no way to tell what type of tranny it is i wanted to get a b16 tranny cuz every one say that tranny better then the gsr tranny so i dont know

Well you can also tell what type of tranny it is if it's still on the car since you could see what the RPM is at 80 MPH. An LS should be around 3500 and a GS-R is at 4k. There is no VIN tag on it either? Also a B16 tranny is basically a Type-R one with no LSD and a slightly different final drive.

get a b16 if all motor. gear ratios are closer, but if you do alot of highway driving its gonna suck. rpm is very high and if you got a loud exhaust its gonna hurt. i prefer gsr tranny because its as quick as a b16 and has a longer 5th for highway driving, and has stronger syncros...
