Y80 rough spin after rebuild
I replaced my input shaft bearing. After reinstalling the casing it became noticeably more rigid (no noise, just a bitch to turn) in neutral, but shifting is painless.
Since the ISB shattered I had to clean everything thoroughly - would the cleaning agent dry out the parts enough to expect friction? It's still dry, I haven't refilled it.
Otherwise, any likely suggestions are welcome.
[edit] I noticed the diff turns, even when it's in neutral. I was told this is normal, but correct me if I'm wrong.

The Honda transmission overhaul guide instructed to lubricate a few things during the rebuild, I followed protocol specifically.
But as far as the general MTF, I haven't refilled it yet (in case I had to take it apart again). Could that alone be causing the resistance?
[edit] I haven't reinstalled it or run under load, this is just an observation from hand-turning the input shaft. I've got about 20ft-lb of resistance.

Filled it up, turned it about 20 revs, it's still resisting.
The transmission casing is tough to seat when it gets down to the last 1/2 inch, but the countershaft bearing clamp popped right in, the shift forks are aligned properly, shifting is easy, and there's no grinding.
WTF?

It's probably on the mainshaft side...did you install the 3-4 hub upside down perhaps?
Try tearing down the case, installing mainshaft only, and checking resistance/end play with only mainshaft.
I've seen people install the wrong mainshaft oil guide at the end of the case, causing this issues also.

It spins freely with the case off , I just removed it and it works.
Part #11 (stopper ring) looks to be seated right, it just slips into the grooves with the hook facing the bell housing. Not sure what indexed means. Not sure what it's even used for though...
The 3-4 hub 'looks' installed correctly according to both our illustrations.
But 4th gear does have ~1/8" vertical freeplay and the bearing (#17) sits ~1/8" higher than the shaft (I did press in the 3-4 sleeve).
Yet the 5-R hub sits neutral & I have no shifting problems.

sounds like 3-4 hub is backwards.

Diff spinning in neutral is fine, typical of a constant mesh tranny. The roller bearings under the gears do impart enough friction to cause some spinning. With tires on the ground though it is not enough to cause the car to move.

Yeah, the whole 3-4 synch assembly was backward. I figured it was on correctly because I wasn't having shift problems, but sho'nuff, turns out I'm just a jackass.
Maybe I should invest in some proper lighting eh?

Well the 3-4 hub is flipped between LS and GSR trannys, easy to get it wrong. Same thing happens on 88-91 vs 92-00 D series trannys.
There is a ring on the 3-4 slider for a reason
