Default Questions about b20 swap in '91 DB1.

Recently decided to scrape the cash together to get a b20 from tigerjap, since my b18a1 is about to hit 300k and is burning mad amounts of oil. Did a search and turned up nothing, and the FAQ didn't contain what I was looking for.

First question; Whats better...b20 long manifold or b20 short manifold?

Second question; Is it true that I can use my obd-0 harness, intake manifold / injectors / throttle body, ecu, all the sensors, and anything else I may need on the b20? If so, that would be awesome because I have my b18a1 to butcher for parts if needed.

Third question; Someone told me I could use my LS cams in the new motor, that they would be better than the b20 cams. True or false? If true, explain please.

Fourth question; Can I re-use my LS transmission, and all my trans/engine mounts(and prothane mount inserts)? I'm actually wanting to buy a lower mile LS trans, since mine has 300k...wouldn't make sense to put in a fresh motor and keep the worn out trans. The new one would still be cable, not a fan of hydro transmissions.

Any other tips/advice are more than welcome. Thanks for reading!

The Trans will mount up so will all of the motor mounts...
B18 and B20 are the same engine basically just with different bores...
The long manifold will be better for low end the short better for top end...
I am not sure but I am almost positive that the b18 cams will yield better top end power
All of your mounts will work and so will your h/i/e... "b series are all created equal"

Idk for sure but I read somewhere that the b20 long runner (aka giraffe) intake manifold will not fit under the hood of an integra I may be wrong...

If you want my opinion use the short runner intake manifold... the b20 has plenty of ft/lbs you will want the increased high rpm power. then save some money and do a b20/vtec build up

I was also told that the long IM won't fit under my hood, so I'm gonna go ahead and get the short IM version.

I keep seeing stuff about there being power/compression differences, and that I need to get the non-p75 head version. How do I know which one one is the better one, between the short and long IM versions? Would I just have to call tigerjapanese and have them ship me a specific b20b?

Also...if I retain all my LS obd-0 stuff, is it possible to keep the b20b manifold? If so, do I swap on my LS injectors and TB or use the b20b stuff? I see that everyone swaps on the LS IM and it hurts their power since it isn't port-matched to the new head. I'd like to take one of the easier routes for this swap, but go with the one that would yield me the most power for my dollar.

Keep the B20 intake manifold or get the ls one port matched... but everyting should fit with no problems

X2, I dont believe the b20 manifold fits very nicely under the hood of a DB1, re-use your old ls manifold.

ok heres the deal, DO NOT judge the motor from the manifold, judge it by the knock sensor that is hidden at the back by the oil filter, the ones that have the sensor will be the high compression motor which is what you want, the high comp not only has the same bottom end power(check graphs on b20z dyno on yahoo from hybridgarage, they has a comparison dyno of the z and b) it also has the b18b ls cams(better). as for the low comp,I would only and only get this motor if your intentions are F/I later on,its got the same bottom end power with 20hp less top end and 0.8 less compression and not to mention its older! as for your questions yes the b18 ls has better cams but only the 92+ ones, the 89-91 had the same cams that are in the b20b anyway,if you buy an high comp jdm b20b or usdm b20z dont even bother for the hunt as they are the same(ls cams). yes as you asked everything can bolt right on to the b20,its super simple, just drop the b20 as it was the b18 with all the add ons like manifolds, hoses, dizzy and your set! remember though if you use the jdm b20 you will be short of one of the crank sensors(either fluctuation or speed) and will have your motor run in detune mode since your ecu will be looking for a reading from it,it wont give out a cel so thats the tricky part. there is an article about this so either search or buy an usdm b20z(comes with both sensors)

Sounds like to good swap. I used to have an EJ with a B20 and I loved it. Very torquey.

So some of the short/long versions came with knock, and others didn't? I'm guessing the ones with knock are the "late model" b20b...like 99-00 right?

I just contact tigerjap to ask if I could request a knock sensor model of the short IM b20b, since the long IM wont fit under my hood...I want to keep the IM because I'll lose power if I use my LS IM.

^^^ No the B20a is out of the early 90s prelude. Completely different. To the OP just swap all your obd0 parts over to the b20, I did the same swap into my '91 GS coupe. its pretty straight forward. Since you want to keep the B20 manifold just swap your throttle body, fuel rail and injectors over.

Finally ordered the b20b and received it today. Not having an LS cable or hydro trans was my only delay, until I got the motor today and realized it's not the one I ordered. I also had to pay someone to drive to the local Yellow warehouse to pick the motor up, because they couldn't deliver it.

Here's my misc/tech link about it-
https://honda-tech.com/forums/tech-misc-15/edit-2577486/

I'll never order from TJ again after this, and after the last h22a I got that was butchered all to hell. It seems like they only get the bottom of the barrel motors that none of the other import/export shops take. I'd rather spend the few extra bucks for HM's power-washed motors.
