Last night when me and my girlfriend came home to our apartment at around 7pm, we heard some light meowing that sounded like it was really close. So we check the balcony, check outside to find the source but no luck. Meowing stops, so we go on with our daily routine.
2 hours later we hear some more meowing, check outside and balcony again. Still nothing. I listen a little closer and the sound seems to be coming from the kitchen ceiling. I disregard that possibility and we go to bed at about 11pm.
Now it's 1 in the morning and i hear frantic meowing from multiple cats. I get out of bed to investigate and find the source coming from the kitchen ceiling again! At this point it's impossible to ignore the noise.
I try calling the emergency maintainence number, the overnight manager and the on site security..... nobody picks up! oh well, I try to ignore it but I can't.
I call animal control and they recommend that i cut a hole in the wall and inspect. so i do-
i open the hole and i find a litter of 3 crazy kittens meowing up a storm. Animal control told me to leave the cats undisturbed for an hour, and if in that time there's no sign of a mother cat, to get them in a blanket and box to make sure they were warm.
so i waited an hour and a half, and still no sign of mom. i reach up in the crawl space to get the cats and they're really cold. We get all 3 cats down and wrapped up to warm them up-
Animal control told us if the mother cat shows up in the crawl space now that they're out, to slowly return the kittens to the crawl space. And she'll take them and move them since she knows the crawlspace is no longer safe. So we wait and wait and wait some more. Finally at about 430-5AM ceiling cat makes an appearance-
Sadly we returned the kittens to the crawlspace and we never saw ceiling cat again. she left the kittens there
Animal control got us in contact with a local animal rescue and the lady who worked there went in early to meet us. She didn't start till 11am but came in at 730am to be sure the kittens got the proper care and attention.
Long story short- i still haven't slept, my GF has a final at noon(and only slept for like 3 hours), there's a hole in my ceiling and.... Ceiling cat!
UPDATE: ceiling cat is still in the crawl space!!! i was napping on the couch and heard a strange noise. so i muted the tv and realized ceiling cat is in the crawlspace continuously just growling!!! WTF?!?!
they're not coming till tomorrow to do a sweep of the crawlspace and properly sealing any entrances to it
