In my experience with Synthetic, I really liked Royal Purple. But, if you have worn rings synthetic will bypass easier than conventional due to smaller molecules and lower viscosity at high temperatures. Trust me, with that many miles you'll be adding oil with synthetic. I kept using synthetic oil and wondering why I kept adding 1/2 qt every 1,000 miles until one of my friends told me the same thing and sure enough now that I am using conventional again no problems.

well would you have that problem with a blend or maybe a thicker viscosity synthetic ????? i thought synthetic was more stable at higher temperatures

Re: what is the best full synthetic oil ????????????
Synthetics tend to burn off faster than natural oil of the same viscosity in most cases (Mobil 1 in particular is notorious for it), so if your car burns any significant amount of oil, it's a bit pointless to switch to synthetic as you're just going to end up burning off more expensive oil at an even faster rate.
The only real advantage to using synthetic oil in a mild daily driver is extended drain intervals. Unless you're changing oil at 8,000+ mile intervals or using forced induction and seeing oil temps over 250F constantly, synthetic is really just a waste of money.
Plenty of cars have run hundreds of thousands of miles on conventional oil, and I've never seen a Honda engine failure that could have specifically been avoided by using synthetics.

Synthetic doesn't break down as easily with high oil temperatures, but 1) that has nothing to do with burn-off and 2) it doesn't really matter in a low-revving naturally aspirated daily driven car, which won't see excessive oil temps under most conditions.

would you be able to clarify the claims I have heard that if you use synthetic you should not switch back and forth to conventional?

sweet thx for the info, that's a relief. I have been wasting my money on sythetic for some time now, and being as how i change every 3k anyway its pretty pointless. As far as filters I use the mobil 1 filter, any cheaper recommendations?

Ive had great luck with Amsoil in the past. My D17 held up great after 4 years of beating on it on the track. And I mean beating.
Currently running Amsoil in my K20... but Im about to try Brad Penn Racing oil. It is a semi-synthetic, but I have read nothing but fantastic reviews about it. It is the green oil

I run Ford Motorcraft synthetic. It has been proven to protect as well as Mobil 1, and for 1/3 of the price. Its not like we are protecting big horsepower, big dollar cars.
