Default hard to press gas pedal

have searched google but dont feel im finding what i need.

when my gas pedal is all the way up. like the first inch or so of pressing it down is actually difficult like as if it was rusty which causes rough shifts sometimes or can also what i feel cause my car to be jerky because im not getting a smooth press.

i was reading on google to possibly clean the throttle body but the reasoning behind that was if the pedal was sticky.

my gas pedal does not stick at all it is just hard to press down.

should i still clean it or do i need to loosen something or what?

any advice is apreciated

If the pedal pressure is inconsistent i would look for a bind in the cable somewhere. There should not be any visible helper spring under the hood, so check to see if someone put one on. I hope that helps

Doesn't take much effort to take off the air filter and look into where the valve is to see if it is gunked up.

start by taking the throttle cable off and pulling on it. it should move nice and easy, with not much effort. if thats good try moving the throttle plate while the cable is off. this will tell you what the problem is. if its the throttle body, you should take it off and clean it. its held on by 2 12m nust and 2 12mm bolts.

they have this stuff at advance auto called "throttle body cleaner" you might need somthing abrasive to scrub it with depending on how bad it is. like a brillo pad or somthing. but dont do it too much or it will never idle right again.

you can try adjusting the nut on the throttle cable holder. It can cause it to be hard to press if its too tight.
