viper 791 wont start after replacing car battery
hi everyone. I had a bad car battery so i replaced it. Since replacing the battery the car will not start with the remote. The system arms and disarms it self with the second remote but will not start with that one either. The main remote does nothing now.
I have tried to reprogam the remote by openin the door and hitting the valet button once and then holding it well pressing the lock button on the viper remote no such luck.
Any one have any ideas how i can get it to start with the remote. It is driving me nuts. It like -40 out and i hate having to get into a cold car and wait.
Also the second remote, the one that attempts to start it, doesnt crank long enough for it to start. Is there a way that i can change this? the main remote doenst have this problem.

Re: viper 791 wont start after replacing car battery
update. i have called viper and they told me that the remotes probably jsut need to be reprogrammed. He walked me through it on the phone but didnt have the car with me well doing it. so when i got the car back i went to try and it semi worked.
Car still wont start with either remote. Car doesnt crank with either one now. But i can start the car with the key and press start button on remote twice and it will remain running. The led light stays solid during this time.

Is the hoodpin damaged/working?
Temporarily unhook the hoodpin (slide the wire off the terminal) and try remote starting it.

the car doesnt have a back up battery in stalled and the hood pin is fine from the looks of things.. i will try to disconnect it tho and then try starting.
Car will now not stay on even with key start. Also there is no siren for the alarm and when set the led desnt flash .. no chirp either from either the remote or the car

There could be a couple of things wrong. Faulty hood pin from the snow. car tach needs to be reprogrammed, remote needs to be reprogrammed. Now it seems that the car is on valet mode.
open the door and press lock, unlock, lock back in forth till the alarm beeps. and we will go from there

Ditto the above^^^
Sounds like system is in valet, [solid LED and no siren chirps].

Re: viper 791 wont start after replacing car battery
hey everyone jsut went out and tried everything suggested. The cars alarm system is now functioning properly. But still no remote start. I have disconnected hood pin, tried to reprogram tach. And the remotes seem to be programed properly as well. When trying to start with the remote everything come on in the car like it is ready to start just not cranking. Also i am still unable to keep it running once it is started by key.

Put the key in the ignition, however, do not turn it. Just let it sit there.
Try remote starting it and see what happens.
(Maybe a bad transponder, dead 556uw (if used))

Re: viper 791 wont start after replacing car battery
hey everyone thanks for the help so far. It has been awsome and i have learnt alot more about my system. I did manage to get the car to start today with the main remote but not with the second one.
I disconnected the whole brain and reconnected it again and it worked !!
The back up remote how ever still only starts it for 2 seconds and then shuts off. Not to sure why? But i am so happy to have the main one working again. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to change the second remote so it doesnt shut down right away. Also when car is already running and i start with the second it grinds the starter. But doesnt do it with the main remote

Remove the batt. from the "back-up" remote, replace it and reprogram it again, in fact, remove batt. from both remotes, delete all remotes, [remote learn routine, on page 35, channel 14] then reprogram them both. 94

Re: viper 791 wont start after replacing car battery
I am curently having a similar problem. My remote battery died last night, i heard the little tune play but i didnt replace the battery until morning.
My alarm now is armed and does not respond to the remote. When i push a button the radio signal icon will appear but no beep or confirmation beep. When i open the door (with the key) the alarm will go off for about 30 seconds and then stop. If i start the car the alarm will go off for another 30s. The led does the two fast blinks so i dont think it's in valet mode. I bypasses the starter kill (hooked the green/purple together) so i dont think the valet on/off will work properly. The funny thing is the remote will notify me when i set the alarm off so there is one-way communication.
Im in work now with no tools, but im going to try disconnecting the hoodpin and do the alarm reprogram. If that doesnt work im going to disconnect the alarm and bettery when i get home.
Does anyone know what's happening?

Re: viper 791 wont start after replacing car battery
the led has a slow constant blink. when i trigger the alarm it blinks 3 quick times. i just got done unplugging the brain right now and nothing's different.
i tried the arm-unarm-arm thing with no luck.
i dont know what to do, is the brain dead?

Re: viper 791 wont start after replacing car battery
Without knowing the make and model of the alarm I can't tell you how to do a "disarm without remote", but I would try turning on the ign. switch and then pressing the valet/program button, it may be a valet/program switch, ["flick" instead of pressing].
It may be press and release or press and hold.
Once disarmed without remote, the system may be in valet, [solid LED] take it out of valet, turn ign. switch on then off and press and release valet/program button.
Reprogram remote, again need a make and model to tell you how to program it. 94
PS, if it is a Viper 791XV....

Re: viper 791 wont start after replacing car battery
its a viper 5900sst. im not able to disarm the remote through the valet button. By looking at the led it doesnt seem to be affected by me trying valet/unarm/or reprogram modes. I checked the button thoroughly, it's firmly plugged in and the wires look perfectly intact. although i havent tried holding the valet button yet while donig the ignition on thing. when i put the key in the ignition the alarm goes off, would this prevent the alarm from unarming?
when i open the door, the alarm goes off, and i do the unlock remote code , arm-disarm-arm. the remote will display unlock, but the car will still be armed.
the led either blinks in 3 or 5 time sets.

Re: viper 791 wont start after replacing car battery
OIC a 5900, disarm without remote is a little diff....
disarming without a transmitter
If your remote transmitter is lost or damaged, you can manually
disarm your vehicle security system.
To disarm the system without a transmitter, you must have the vehicle's ignition key and know where the Valet button is located. Be sure to check with your installer at the time of installation for both the location and the preset response (1-5 presses) of the Valet button.
To disarm the security system, turn the ignition to the ON position.
Press the Valet button the preset number of times (one to five times) within 15 seconds.
After five seconds, the system will disarm.
If the system does not disarm, you may have waited too
long; turn the ignition off and on and try again.
If a "code" has been programed you will have to try all 5 possibilities starting with turn ign. press and release valet button one time and wait 5sec., if that does not work start over, turn ign. on and press and release valet button two times and wait 5sec. and so on, until alarm disarms.94

Re: viper 791 wont start after replacing car battery
A valet "code" may be programed into the alarm, [1 to 5]. 94
PS yes it is possible that the valet button is broken, it is a SPST momentary switch, NO, [normally open] it should have no continuity across the terminals until pressed and held and then it should be full continuity

Find it maybe in the drivers tunnel kick panel, pull the power lead from it, press the button on top and hold it while re-powering it, let go the button, then watch the led light, when it turns green turn on the ignition.
