Weird noise: wheel bearing? Axle? (with video)
Any help would be appreciated:
Originally thought it was wheel bearing but I'm thinking it's the axle. It's coming from behind the rotor (even though camera is facing towards transmission, mic is right above the sound location to pick up sound better).
Is it the axle? Cv joint? Cv boot isn't torn. No grease present?
I'm thinking it's not wheel bearing because there is no play in the wheels 6-12 position and almost no play in 9-3 position.
Noise is prominent in reverse. Going forward 40-50mph noise is apparent. Doesn't change in volume with respect to speed. When coming to stop feels like brakes grind bad. But lots of life left in pads. Rotors not warped.
Anyone have a front right steering knuckle for sale for a 2000 dx? Mine froze up on to the axle when trying to diagnose the problem.
Edit: in case the vid quality is too poor to tell, I was turning the wheel in reverse in the beginning. When the noise changed, I was turning the wheel forward.
