Re: B-series transmission teardown/rebuild tutorial
c clip was tight this was b/c i had the bolts too tight...
the shifter will now go into 3rd and 4th because i had to fix the mechanism that actually moves the shift rods....i had it in the wrong position and had to correct that...but idk bout 1st 2nd and 5th...are they just more difficult to get into?

Yeah. You definitely can't tighten the case down very far until you spread the c-clip. And even then, I leave the case a bit loose until I get the countershaft in. Then finish tightening those four bolts down. All of the gears should be about the same to get into gear. 5/R can be a bit tough at times though. But 1-4 should be butter shifting it by hand.

I have not unfortunately. It probably won't be until spring that I get around to doing that.
The synchro ring will definitely help out quite a bit though. My only real concern is if some of the wear on the synchro hub has been causing the slight 3rd gear grind.

my y1 and s1 trannys were opened 8 times before i got it right. for those having issues with the countershaft c clip....a 1/2" drive extension works wonders for keeping that c clip open when putting the case halves back together.
also i think it's a good idea to replace the interlock while you're in there.

This thread is suuuuper helpful, I was wondering if you could give a little more clarification if you top bearing gets stuck in the case, I tried to tip it upside down and tap it out and tryed to pry it out but no succes.
Also is there somewhere that I can get those tiny ball bearings that come out of the holes on the side of the case? Honda maybe?

Re: B-series transmission teardown/rebuild tutorial
nice write ups.
I just started messing with transmissions, but I put mine back together like Aquafina said. Just turn the case ove while holding it in the air and it snaps into place. Never dropped mine.. Just sounds scary.
But I definitely learned a little more about the syncro sleeves and which sides are which.

Re: B-series transmission teardown/rebuild tutorial
I have a 94 GSR and it has always had a loud input shaft bearing. It shifts very good though. Yesterday on the way to work. I started out in 1st gear and got a loud clunk. Car didn't go anywhere. It felt as if I lost my tranny. Couldn't feel any gears with the shifter. Then It started working again. I was able to get it to my garage. It has a loud (Rod knock) type sound in the tranny. I am thinking (hoping) it's the input bearing I should have the tranny pulled out tomarrow night. Any idea's?

no. just torque/tighten them to spec.
very nice illustration and pics. great write up!
i would like to share a pic of mine, a CTR/S4C LSD tranny internals into a YS1 cable tranny casing with LS 5th. all done at home, DIY'd the first time(thanks to one of the how-to's links Bense posted in the sticky and Helms manual as usual). it's been running smoothly ever since i swapped and made use of it.

wrd awesome write-up.
Coupled along with the Jeff Evans Tuning Youtube vids showing the actual transmission disassembly and differential replacement, I feel pretty confident I could tackle this myself.

Thank you very much for this thread. I was able to take my tranny apart and find the input shaft bearing was destoried. Inner race of the bearing was half gone. A few ***** were missing too. I got it back in last night and it's running great.
