Default My build thread-1991 usdm honda crx si d16a6 sohc zc all motor N/A

This is my build thread, I'm pretty into it already, but I will just update you guys to now over the days k.
It started pretty slow but has picked up pace, and I estimate I will be done in one year two tops.

Anyways, this is my thread, this is my car; a 1991 Honda crx si. I did a carfax on it, and I'm the second owner, car has a clean history and made it's way over here from Canada, picked it up from an old lady for 1800.00 a year back
Here's my first pics.

I think no one respects the d series so I'm sticking with it, just to be a little unique. I was really interested in supercharging, but just going to keep it all motor

Well it's not the original d16a6, it had 142 k on it so I decided to buy a Japanese import, the sohc zc. My dad owns small auto shop and I bought one from his wholesaler for 250.00 with the transmission.
But the d16 still worked, so I we installed an exedy oem clutch, and race flywheel. I should've bought and Lsd while I was at it, but didn't know what to look for (still don't =[) .
Anyways, first things first, was a major tune up for the new motor, well 40 k mile motor
This involved Everything; including a complete engine seal.
sparkplugs, wires, dizzy cap, rotor, O2 sensor, pcv valve, fuel filter, timing belt, and fuel injectors.
We put the motor in the car and finished doing the tuneup, fluids mainly. And went to pass smog... I failed. so instead of fixing it and going for my free re-test, I bought these:

suspension is what has been done mostly since i kept the d series, I thought I would compensate
I have now, this setup;
blox lca's, rear camber kit
skunk2 front camber kit
no name strut bars
tanabe sway bars
tein basic dampner
mugen trailing arm bushings
at one point I installed some innovative engine mounts, but the vibration was annoying, so I removed them
My innovative traction bar and front mount is set to arrive soon

still been working on the suspension a bit,
The motor is a stock sohc zc, with a exedy oem clutch and race flywheel
Id on't know if it's like this stock, but someone said my flywheel is why I have to rev my motoor so much to keep it from bogging, it's nice otherwise

This is the most recent picture of my motor

But that setup was real bad, for power and mpg. So rite now it has the stock manifold and throttle body

ebay headers are pretty good for the price

this is my current motor setup;
Ground wires; pic above is old, wire goes to crown bolt
aem cam gear +1 degree
aem cold air intake
aem pulley
aem fuel rail, fpr set to 43-44 psi
new radiator, slimfan, high pressure radiator cap, 70/30 mix with water wetter, and 160 degree thermostat
stock d16 manifold throttle body, with bypassed coolant lines
insulated fuel lines and fuel filter
valvoline 5w30 synpower
penzoil synchromesh
gates hoses, and timing belt
ngk plugs, o2 sensor, and wires
blox drain plugs [placebo]
tsudo catback

I found bisimoto sells heat insulating manifold gaskets, so i want one of those.
I plan for an lsd and a ceramic coat on the header, I planned on lightening my crank pulley also
but not sure on this yet
an lsd and crank pulley will be done for sure if i have to pull the motor out

this on order soon to arrive;
es shifter bushing
oddysey pc680 battery
i've been looking into testpipes, not sure if it's worth it, feedback anyone?

Good stuff!

What are the brass things on the front of the valve cover?

How heavy is the race flywheel?

Those are ground cables, wired wrong. None were touching the cylinder head. Now I have them connected to the crown bolts. I will update pics soon
The flywheel was 10 pounds or so.

how much did you pay for the new climate control?

and you seemed like you were joking but i actually did drool over the pics of the new one.

i didn't know brand new climate controls existed, never mind are in stock at dealerships!

nice score

i wonder if there is anything you can do to the new one so it doesnt suffer the same fate as all CRX climate controls?
maybe epoxy on the rear of where it tends to crack?

it was pricey, 330.00
I didn't know either, but I got lucky. Good thing because I wouldn't be able to fix mine

Car is coming along well, good stuff. I too bought a new climate control, not sure why people think they can't just order one. There are many parts that can still be had NIB at Honda. Last month i picked up a new area cover top and bottom parts too.

Good luck with your build.

is it me or do you have duct tape holding your cold air kit to the throttle body?

They do make silicon connectors for that if that is the case.
