OEM CTR pistons vs Nippon Racing pistons
Hy guys, I wonder if you can give me some advice about what pistons to buy. I wanna get more power from my B16A2 engine. This is the list of what I recently bought and I'm planning to use in my stock engine:
- Buddy Club Spec III plus cams
- Unorthodox Cam Gears (Tuner Series)
- Skunk2 valve springs and titanium retainers
- Ferrea valve guides and valve seals
- Buddy Club 0.5 head gasket
- ITR P73 ECU
I wanna use CTR pistons with all these parts, in order to gain compression, but I want your advice on what pistons to buy. The question is: Should I get the OEM CTR pistons or the Nippon Racing CTR pistons. Have you heard about Nippon's? I didn't know about Nippon Racing untill I found a store in Ebay selling them for a very good price, US$ 159.99 including gas nitrite coated rings, steel pins and shipping (Item 180299302469). The seller told me that they are the same as OEM CTR pistons but these are made with better materials and that they are 40% harder than OEM's. I wasn't sure, the price is so good that I'm not confident... On the other hand, I found OEM CTR pistons and rings in another store for US$ 300.
What do you think? do you recommend them? any experience with Nippon's?
Thanks fo your advice.

I've been looking at these as well. Search wasn't very helpful but one poster claimed that Nippon makes the factory pistons for Honda
Anyone used the H22 versions?

Nippon Racing Pistons are good pistons. I have used it on a lot of budget build up and they work really well and make good power.

the car made 162whp and 117trq this was with stock cams, stock tb, stock intake manifold 3inch intake, ctr pistons, megan racing header, apexi ws2 catback. You can tell that the car is gettin held back it seems the exhuast is keepin alot of back pressure

I have a very similar set up, but with a GSR and Im running the 2.38" WS2 exhaust system also, as I add more parts to my motor I know it will begin to hold me back more and more, but it just sounds so good.

Over 70k miles on my build with these pistons, several of my friends are nearing 50k miles on their motors w/ these pistons.
