Re: Oil change interval
That means you're throwing away perfectly good oil; waste of money.

Re: Oil change interval
Next oil change, send your oil to those guys. You are likely wasting your money.... and this is coming from someone that drives 145 miles per day.

This, choose a brand of oil and filter you like then send it in. Base your OCI after that. For me, my Civic has 192k and it was neglected by the previous owner on oil changes so I run Penzoil Platinum. I've been chaning it once it starts to get dirty usually 2500. Gonna do this until the engine is fully cleaned out then I'll send it in to get tested.

Re: Oil change interval
It probably is, I go by looking at the color on the dipstick. As I stated before the car was neglected previously so I'm "flushing" out using high quality oil with short intervals. I don't mind spending $19 on oil.

Re: Oil change interval
You'd lose that bet. Chasing down an elusive oil coolant leak I pulled the heads off at about 145,000 miles (the leak turned out to be a $0,10 "O" ring elsewhere in the engine); not only was the motor spotless inside, but the factory honing marks were still on the cylinder walls. So much for the worthless "Old Wive's Tale" that says to change your oil every 3,000 miles.

Re: Oil change interval
- Fact, by definition all V6 engines have two heads and as my signature clearly states I have a V6 Accord Sedan.
- Fact, all V6 Accord Sedans of the 2001 vintage had automatic transmission; also clearly stated in my signnature. That said, it's the first automobile I've owned since my 1966 Plymouth Valiant 200 with the venerable Slant-6 (note: only 1 "HEAD") which has had an automatic transmission (this car is to be used as my daughter's first car; I'll teach her how to use a stick after she'd competent on the road in the Accord).

I guess you don't follow the old Detroit axiom "Make sure the brain is in gear before you engage the mouth" (or fingers in your case). If you'd taken the time to look at the bottom of my post you wouldn't have put your foot in it twice now.

i know what engines have 2 heads,4 heads etc........ point being on my behalf is your car doesnt get revved like mine does. so i change MY oil so often because I rev my car past 8k everyday!!!! make sense? or should i draw a picture for ya?

Re: Oil change interval
i think a lot of you are forgetting something...just because companies say your oil will last 5,000, 7500, or 10,000 miles between oil changes doesn't mean your oil filter will. until they make an oil filter that will filter your oil beyond 3,000 miles ill stick with changing it every 3,000 miles.
just my 2 cents!!

Re: Oil change interval
I change the oil and filter on my 97 Accord every 5000 miles or so. It has nearly 155,000 miles on it. Still looks pretty clean under the valve covers ... just some varnish, but no carbon or sludge. Been using Castrol GTX 5W30 for most of its life but just recently changed over to Mobil Super High Mileage 5W30.

Re: Oil change interval
^^ Damn, thats clean! I hate owners who neglects their maintenance needs then when it comes to the new owner, sh*ts already f*cked up and caked up with sludge and stuff.
I change mine every 2,500 miles.

Re: Oil change interval
Oil change intervals on my wife's 2004 Odyssey averages around 7000 miles; even went over 10,000 miles once. Been using Pennzoil Platinum 5W20 in it since new. It's got over 166,000 miles. I recently took a peak under the oil cap and from what I can see of the valve train, it looks pristine under there ... much cleaner than my Accord ... and no varnish at all.
