Have a 96 accord here (sohc vtec) that won't start, won't turn over, nothing. Jumpered 12v from the battery to the starter solenoid and it started right up. Did a continuity test on the ignition switch and it came out good between the blk/ylw and white wire while the switch was in "start". Checked voltage on the wire at the solenoid and it's only showing like 4.5v (fluctutates) when the ignition is in the start position. What in the world would cause that? We know the battery is weak, when we jumpered to the solenoid it'd only turn over if we had jumper cables hooked up to another car. Still wouldn't start with the ignition switch whle jumped though...

Any ideas on what else to check??

with the key on does the dash light up ? pretty common for the electrical portion of the ignition switch to fail.in most cases thats the only problem.
you checked voltage but did you do a voltage drop across the terminals to see if the 12v load is going or partial ? my guess is no.

wild guess here...

my car wouldn't start the other day... it would turn over, but wouldn't start... problem was found to be the igniter inside the distributor.

but the check engine light cycles on that failure

Clean off your connections to the battery and the battery terminals. After a while stuff gets built up so clean it off and you should be good to go. If that doesn't work, good luck, lol.

he has full power to the car so i doubt the batter cables are the pointing to this failure since he can apply power to the starter and the car will fire up.

Ignition switches are a common problem. Junk aftermarket alarms with a starter kill feature are another common problem.

Get the battery right first. Either charge it or replace and clean the battery terminals. You don't have those junk clamp-on battery terminals, do you?
