Ok, i've seen a ton of auto to manual swap threads on here, for years, way before i was ever a member, and most of the swap is very well documented. There is however one glaring omission, the starting circuit. Every swap guide i've ever seen said either just join to 2 large wires together or extend the 2 wires from the there to the clutch pedal switch. they both work, kinda. Method 1 works, but you wont have a saftey switch so you can start the car with the clutch out and in gear, not so safe. Method 2 i don't like because people run 22 gauge wire from what starts out as about 10 gauge, this is why honda used a relay, in theory that speaker wire could get hot and burn from that excess current if you held the starter on long enough, also not so safe. So i've decieded to do a mini write up with pics. Manual civics use a clutch relay, its bolted to the inside of the car up above the hood release, you will need this, follow the wires there will be a small blue wire that goes to the yellow plug that goes to the clutch switch, (there is a black ground coming from this plug, cut it off about a foot away from the plug and ground it in the automatic vehicle), and 3 large wires, 2 black/red and 1 black white, follow the 3 large wires to where they go into their 3 respective plugs, depin them from these plugs. find the respective plugs on the automatic vehicle, depin the wires that are currently there and pin in the ones from the clutch relay. plug your yellow plug into the switch of the clutch pedal, thats it. here are some pics to try to make it a easier to understand.

Let me know how your swap goes, i'd like to know if my write up was clear enough to follow. Forgot to add remove the blue shift interlock relay that goes where the clutch pedal should be. Good luck on your swap.

Just completed swapping in the relay and wiring up my second clutch sensor to the ECU for my VX swap, worked great...feel a lot safer knowing there is a relay there and not chancing burning up the wires! Other then me not using a good ground at first this was very easy to do! Thanks for the info!

I'm doing an auto to manual swap soon and I wanted to add this clutch relay to my car... but with a twist. I wanted to know if I could rewire the relay so that I could use a different switch to activate the relay instead of the clutch-activated switch. I was thinking of using an some OEM switch, like cruise control(my car is a DX so it doesn't have cruise control) so that it functions as sort of kill switch. Is this possible.

you can definately wire up a different switch than stock.

so long as you add the relay take the two wire going to the yellow plug going to actual clutch switch (blue and black wires) and run them to a switch, thats pretty much all there is to it. the clutch switch is normally open and closes when the clutch is depressed, simply use another switch the operates in the same manner.

94EG8, I used your way to do my auto to manual swap about a year ago. It has worked great. Thanks for the write up. The thing is I have never hooked up my reverse lights, How do you go about doing this? There are many other threads on how to do this but they are not using the clutch relay.

I hadn't noticed this post till now, but for future refernce I ran mine off the automatic shifter plug and out through the firewall to the transmission.

one think im having a hard time understanding is what to do with the plug in the center console for the auto shifter, this method replaces running wires from the pedal to the center console right? so do u just leave the shifter plug disconnected and it'll run? i plan on using this method and this (https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-.../#post51721190) brake light method, can I use both?
