Radiator fan won't kick on

I have a 98 Civic DX. My fan won't turn on but when I hotwire it with wire itll turn on. I thought it might be a bad thermostat so I bought a new one at Kragens but still no luck. I also replaced the sensor but nothing. I'm thinking about running without a thermo but I heard its not recommended. I think its because my thermo won't open when it reaches 180 degrees?

Stock d16? When you said you replaced the sensor, you mean the thermostat sensor, right? Have you checked fuses and the wiring to the fan?

Yea its a stock d16y7. Yea thats what i meant, the thermo sensor. I've checked all my fuses and fan wiring is all right

your cylinder head will reach crazy temps if you run with no thermostat. not to mention the fan isn't working. LOL.

check fuses 17(heater a/c) rated at 7.5A, and fuse 57 rated at 20A (cooling fan). according to this wiring diagram you need those both to be working for this to run, besides that check your grounds and connections for corrosion and wires backed out of the connectors leading back to the PCM, but i'm sure you know that . oh, and the ECT switch located on the ground side of the PCM.

if you have a chilton or something you can follow that circuit, life is a lot simpler with wiring diagrams.

engine coolant temp switch

backup option a) wire it to power ( i do this on my turbo cars)
backup option b) wire it to a switch

I think i mite jus hotwire my fan with wire but the fan will be on at all times. Is this a good or bad thing to do?

You can hotwire, just don't forget to turn it off.
You can add a switch to turn it on/off under the hood.
Also check the wires on the plugs. I had a bad connection on mine.
