Default Replacing Airbags

My airbags deployed in my 97 Accord SE. Besides the airbags, does anyone know what else I have to replace and how to reset the system? I've searched the forum, but came up with dead ends.
Thanks
Swolf

take airbags out and replace them there should be nothing else you will need(not sure about the dash part)

yes, I've heard this as well. The SRS module is located near the firewall under the center of the dashboard.

Is the SRS module and the "clock spring or reel" the same thing? I've read that the "reel" needs to be centered (turn to turn) and is somewhere in the area of the steering wheel. I sure can't find it.

no, not the same part. The clock reel is under the steering wheel if I'm not mistaken. The SRS module is near the firewall under the center of the dashboard.

yeah, the srs control unit needs to be replaced if it deployed any airbags.

any deployed air bags need to be replaced.

any seat belts not workign properly need replacement. after that if the srs light is still on read the code and go from there.

HondaTech:
Thanks. So, I need to also change the SRS module. What about the clock spring?
Do you know what else I have to do?
What is the actual sensor that tells the module to deploy the airbags? Does that have to be replaced?

Thats the SRS module. It's the brains for the airbags. They are pricey. I'd say at least $500. I can't remember how much mine was. I went to the dealer and got mine. Wasn't going to trust a used one. The extra money was worth the peace of mind knowing my airbags will go off if I need them to. Make sure you get one for the correct year too. If you do the dealer route, they'll ask all the required info and make sure its the right one.

I got used airbags that matched my interior from a salvage yard. $100/ea. I pulled an SRS module from an unblown car, had the same part number as the one in mine. $50. Haven't powered it up yet...I'll let you know what happens.
