Default CA: sold car, how do I notify dmv that the car is sold?

I sold my integra today and I filled out the notice of transfer and release of liability form online already. Does this form count as notifying DMV? Or do I need to go to call them and let them know of the change, in addition to the notice of transfer and release of liability form? If someone can please clarify. Thanks.

I think you have to return your license plates to them so they can be aware you sold it and that you wont be charge tax money from city hall..

Oh sorry asshats, i forgot you guys are from the west coast. Over here in connecticut you have to return your license plate and than DMV will mark your car as sold and will notify city hall to stop charging you car taxes. Now, dont make stupid inputs back to me if you dont know how the system works across the nation. Thanks goodbye. Click the image to open in full size.

Instead of being ******* retarded and just posting up whatever works in your state, you could always look at where the creator of the thread is located and keep your mouth shut if you don't have a clue. That's just a thought. Click the image to open in full size.

lol pretty sure you're still wrong. Once you hand over the title, the new owner will go to the DMV and tell them they bought your car since they need to register it. You can keep your plates (not actually keep them but hold onto them for a little) and they still know you don't own the car. You're only supposed to bring them back because they're not yours. They belong to the state.

WRONG You do as stated earlier, call the DMV or turn in the little slip on the title that states you sold it. You don't have to turn in the tags every time. Click the image to open in full size. You can transfer tags to another car also. Thanks goodbye Click the image to open in full size. Dork

Go to frequently asked questions...should be in there. You can also check the forms for something like this.

And call them.

Take your end of the pinkslip to the dmv, you don't want to be charged with any tickets from the new owner if he doesn't register it yet, i've heard a few stories of that happening

It doesn't matter. You're still the registered owner until the guy registers it in his name. Just make sure to keep a copy of the bill of sale and the release of liability as proof of the sale. If the car gets a ticket, you'll need to provide these as proof that the car was sold to another person.
