Default Fit in snow?

I live in New England and just wanted to know what people's experience with the fit in snow has been.

I ran in the snow this winter.
With stock Dunlops, its OK. VERY understeer prone, not a surprise.
With my snows (Pirelli Winter Carvings on VW Snowflake 14" wheels), it handles very well. I'm happy with it, and with snows, I could handle just about anything but sheet ice.

Thanks sharkytm....I'm in MA too. I'm just a bit concerned coming from a 4WD CRV as I like to take ski trips to VT, etc. Maybe I should consider studs for the winter.

Since your streets won't be covered in snow for the whole winter time, I would skip on the studs. What I would do is, first get a second set of wheels for snow tires. This will not set you back too much at all, since there are TONS of 4x100 14-15" wheels floating around. Then, get some snow tires. I've tried everything from expensive Blizzaks to cheap-o $40/tire Hankooks. To tell you the truth, I hardly noticed any difference, and I've been through some HAIRY stuff (I live right in a ski town). Lastly, buy at set of chains for extreme conditions. Add a bag of salt/sand (not really necessary with the chains) in the back and you're set.

i am from the eastern part of Quebec Canada. We have snow beteen november and marsh so i know what it is to run on snow tire ( Blizzack by the way ).

The Fit is a perfect snow time cruiser for me ( and my 15 000m/year )

I didn't have any trouble going in the snow of Western PA last winter.

The only issues I experience were with stopping on snow. My ABS was a little too happy and kicked on easily.

That's actually WHY you get snow tires. Not to get traction when accelerating or turning, but stopping.

I've driven mine in the winter lowered on Eibach Pros in Ottawa, Canada. We get decent amounts of snow and I has no issues. I had steelies with winter tires on it for the winter months. Of course, the day after I installed the alloys in the spring, it snowed.

With the winter tires, it was fine in the snow and as long as you don't try to plow the road, you'll be fine.

Had a little snow last winter, it drove fine for me on the stock sport wheels/tires.

I am excited to drive in the snow. Thanks to someone on clubcivic I got wheels and brand new snow tires for a fraction of what someone would pay for regular tires.

Hi I live in Nova Scotia. I have a very aggressive snow tire on my 2007 Fit. Last winter i almost went off the road five times. The Fit is a dangerous car in the snow even with a aggressive snow tire. This year i bought a 2001 winter beater Sunfire to drive.

Fits are a frickin' hoot in the snow. Get a good set of winter tyres and they're as competent as anything else that's 2wd.

i sell cars at a toyota dealership in western mass, and last february our honda store down the block had left a fit MT in our lot during a snow storm. i had a chance to move it and it was all over the damn place, even without a ton of snow or packed ice on the ground. i thought it would be at least comparable to the scions i sell or a civic or corolla, but it seemed awful. i was looking into these cars for my wife, but that kinda scared me off. was this a fluke?

Yeah my family is keeping our Fit out of the snow. The touchy throttle makes me skeptical of it's snow driving capabilities. No matter, we have two other cars to drive. I don't want to get salt all over it anyways.

does sand in the back help, i mean a fit is fwd..physics says it will put a little more weight on the front too but more proportionally will go to the back.

I'll get some this winter, I haven't swapped them on yet. I've got a Rabbit GTI 16v sitting under my porch, waiting for its time to shine. to another A1 VW guy.
