A metal cutting band saw works great or a port-a-band. Never even thought about a chisel. hmmmm...

Just put masking tape on the fittings if you don't want to scratch the anodizing.

I'm curious... what makes the SS line "stay" in the An fitting head?

Is it the twisting action where the SS braids bind to the inside of the head fitting?

Its compressed between the fitting and the hose end. Same action that makes it seal.

I 100% agree........buy a 4" wide chisel with the yellow hand protector, use a standard 5 lb. hammer, and cut it.

IMHO do NOT use tape. The tape obviously frays the metal braid when you remove it. If you do it this way, you don't even need the little cool tool for inserting the lines.

You need: chisel, 5lb hammer, a concrete floor or a block of wood

I like the kind with the rubber inside vs the plastic tube. And the Summit offbrand fittings work 100% the same as the expensive brands.

Instead of using tap, usa a zip tie. Cut the zip tie with a metal cutting chop saw right up against the zip tie. What that will do is, the zip tie will keep the ends from fraying and all you have to do is pul the zip tie off the end and you have a nice smooth hose end .

Anybody know what size of box end wrench to use with 8, 10 and 12 AN fittings? Also while doing this, I guess you don't need to wrap the fittings with tape to protect the finish, I thought that being that the wrench is steel and not aluminum it would have damage the finish.

www.brfittings.com

For future reference for everyone else. These are for B & R Fitting hose ends, other brand fittings may differ.

AN 4 straight 14mm
AN 4 45º,90º,150º etc. 5/8"
AN 6 19mm
AN 8 1"
AN 10 27mm
AN 12 1 1/4"

You have to use a box end ratcheting wrenching. I use the brand Gear Wrench. Any quality ratcheting wrench will work.

The reason they don't scratch the fittings is the ratcheting wrench has 12 contact points to grab around the fitting.
