In my 1991 Accord EX 4-door Sedan, the stock front speakers were 5.25" and the back were 6x9"...When the head unit started dropping channels, I stripped out the HU and speakers. I placed some 6.5" speakers up front by mounting them directly to the door frame and placed 6x9's in the rear deck. I also replaced the head unit. All are now Sony Xplod. There are some models of the 1991 Accord that run 6.5" all around; I know the Accord Wagon is one.

you need 6 1/2 front and back
but itll take anything as long as u have attachment
but your gonna have to buy extras
you need to buy 1inch mounting plates for the speakers on the front
sometimes good speakers dont fit in the original mounts(if you dont use a mount the side window will hit the speaker)
also dont ground ur speakers to the body of the car

OEM is 6.5 all around.
6X9 can be fitted into the back as well as 5 1/4 in front.

Re: what size are the 1991 accord speakers?
The two front speaker mounting holes can easily be enlarged.
I used a Jigsaw and widened the holes so I could install 13mm speakers. From what I recall I think it can still go one step further onto the next standard size but I'll have to check that.
Now, I'd really like to get rid of the back factory-installed mounting adaptors. I just don't like the way they stand out on the shelf and make themselves too obvious. Anyone got any tips how to do so ? I'm guessing a shelf board must be added to do so but not really sure where to start.
Tips, ideas ?

Re: what size are the 1991 accord speakers?
I got 6.5" infinity reference shallow mounts in my door pods (of my 91 coupe), and 6.5" reference's in the back. Regardless of the speaker you mount in the back deck, I highly suggest installing a foam baffle, after cutting a hole (port) in it, as the trunk is too large to produce good lows in what would be considered a "free air" setup. Just my .02

Re: what size are the 1991 accord speakers?
Has anyone ever built or installed a baffle shelf on the back, just next to the rear seat ?
I want to rid of the factory speaker adaptors and since my car's black with black seats, I'd like to rid of the whole cream carpet colour as well.
I wanted to look in the back and see a black flat plank with the speakers mounted on its surface. I'm a handy chap but the thing's a bit irregular to just get there and lay the plank on top of the structure.
Ideas ? Tips ??

Have you tried removing the plastic cover? Maybe just easier to sand it a bit and spray it black instead of trying to fabricate from scratch or go to the local scrap yard and find a black one.

Re: what size are the 1991 accord speakers?
Maybe I didn't explain myself properly.
I have, I did once remove the plastic enclosures where the speakers are mounted on.
I would easilly mount the speakers onto the structure without them but if removed, there are wear marks under them that will become visible once the speakers are assembled directly onto the board.
Also, I cannot stand the way they stand out for the sake of me and lastly, the finish on the structure board's carpet is so worn I deslike the whole thing alltogether so I trully wanted something to cover it up. Preferably something I could have done in black leather like all the rest of the car's interior.
