Incorrect. 405s need more compression than what the PHK pistons will provide. 403s will be nice, 404s will be ok. The BC0022s will be somewhat in the middle of those two, I'd expect.

if you do a full tune on your 404's (both part and full throttle with a wideband) your gas mileage shouldnt drop more than 1 mpg. my mileage went down more form switching to a type R tranny with a short FD.
your idle quality will vary depending on the cam gear settings, ive found with my motor that as the power goes up the idle goes down. my motor seems to like a good amount of overlap though. my idle with the cams "zeroed" in was actually quite good. just a slight lope and fine in the cold.
with alot of seperation on the cam gears its really rough before it warms up and has a pretty good lope with some instability once its warmed up (at about 900rpm)
btw im using a profab header with a 2.5" exhaust. larger exhausts really help b20s though.

jchusing i was wondering what do you think of the hytech header rep vs a jdm itr header for a ls setup with cams(bc stage 2 or crower 403),cam gears,intake,and 2.5" exhaust?

The Hytech or good replica (Rage), and most true Tri-Y headers with a 2.5" collector are the next step up from the JDM ITR. There are much bigger gains midrange and a few up top to be seen when going from a JDM ITR to one of the Tri-Ys (Reference the recent Hytech, Rage etc. thread).
Going all motor LS, or C1/C5, you want to have the 3'' Intake, and the 2.5" exhaust starting at the header. Then you know you're probably at the full potential of your current all motor engine setup....then it's down to the nitty gritty in the engine.
I just bought a Comptech Icebox from my moderator on SHO, so I'll post up here with the gains I see over my smaller AEM SRI. (I'll also be dynoing the setup as well to see the difference).

i wouldnt expect to gain a ton over a ITR header. i remember a guy who put on a rage header on a high CR ls with 404's that got very small gains over a DC 4-1 so...

Interesting. My mod on SHO had P30s, 404s, 3 angle valve job, the works on his B18C1. He went from JDM ITR to a Rage, gained 4whp peak, 20whp midrange.

cool, i knew the ITR headers were pretty good, and i was looking into picking one up. my only issue is i have to worry about ground clearance(PA roads suck), and from what i hear 4-1 headers hang hella low. this is why i was considering a GReddy 4-2-1 or something similar.

VTEC is not a magical word that makes your car faster. It is awesome technology that allows for good midrange power, fuel economy, etc. when vtec is not engaged. When vtec engages at a certain rpm you switch to more aggressive cam lobes, therefore making more power.
The benefit of doing an an lsvtec is that the vtec head flows a whole lot better than an LS head. So with just swapping the heads you are going to make more power. Just the fact that the cylinder head utilizes vtec is not what will make more power.
What the Signal guys did was use the vtec head and basically convert it to non-vtec. In a purpose built race car this is fine, because street driveabilty is not an issue. They run the more aggressive cam at all times and do not have to rely on vtec crossover.

you mean run a vtec head without vtec? theres a few ways to do it some involve custom rockers some involve cam/rocker combos. depends on the campany and their approach.

I bought all the parts for my B20B build starting last year, and I am still running stock now. Just running low on funds and thinking to put things on hold for now.
