Default SHG_Riley's Paint Thread

[b]*Edit* Page 15, Car history![b]

So this week after saving up some money, I decided I was going to paint my car. I got a job at a body shop about 3 months ago and have been learning as much as possible since then. On Tuesday I brought my car to shop and started on the body work and Im trying to take as many pictures as possible. Excpet for the fact that i forgot to take close-up before pictures of the dents oh well.
--Tuesday Grinded down the area of the dents on the quarter.

--Pulled the dents (they were pretty bad)

--Applied the filler.

--Sanded it down.

--Wednesday, started grinding down the dents on the door.

--Sanding down the filler.

--Everything sanded and ready for primer.

--All primed.

--Thursday, started the dents on the passenger side door/roof.

--Pulled the dents on the lower part of the quarter.

--Hood, Door, Roof, ready to be primed.

--All primed.

--Tomorrow I will be doing the body work on the front and rear bumper and then wet sanding the car to get ready for paint.

never do hard tape lines like you did on the roof because they might show through the final paint.

looks good and good luck

Thanks, and I think I will be good though once everything is wet sanded those lines will be gone.

Wrong...You can never get rid of HARDLINES completely..You need to block it and then reprime and block again. You should always roll and edge 4-6" from where you plan to stop primeing to keep from having a hardline.

Today was kind of a slow day, very tired, and a little behind schedule. Theres always more and more things you run into.
--Started on the front and rear bumper.

--Front and rear bumper primed.

--Thats all for today, tomorrow wet sanding the whole car and going to tape it up for paint, if theirs enough time might be spraying it, but most likely Sunday.

nice work dude.
but please remember to paint the lips, moldings and mirrors and especially the license plate bezel.
Lately a lot of people were sayin they dont like the moldings/lips etc painted, I dont see whats so great about black plastic. Just paint it... you modify your engine and suspension but wont dare paint the moldings? doesnt make sense I like everything painted....

Thanks, and honestly I prefer the moldings and everything black, Im going to be re-painting all of them the flat black so there freshened up, I just like it better that way. On like 96-2000 civics I do like how some come with the moldings painted and everything but I don't like it as much on my body style.

Is this your first time doing something like this, I want to give advice but don't want to offend you in any way. I don't do body work for a living but do have some advice if you care to take it.

Ok, here it goes. If I recall correctly, primer traps in moisture and can actually cause the build up of rust... pretty fast. Look into that a little more on the net, there might be something better to use for the time being. I'm not 100% sure that was what I remember correctly so take that for what its worth.

Don't do that, no matter how much you sand the area down and it feels smooth, it won't be smooth when you paint it. Your going to see the square marks when you paint it... ask me how I know . What you want to do is sand the whole roof down, yes more work but in the long run it will come out better.

That's what ive heard too, not to tape off like that, when touching up a spot or when doing anything i guess... owell, im sure it will come out awesome.... it would probably help to prime around all those hard lines, fade it out, sand, prime again, sand. idk, seems like that would help fill in the difference.

I wouldn't use a grinder to get the paint off. It is a hassle feathering the deep cut.
Looks good though. I wanna see the outcome.
