replace truck sensor and check your grounding wires...something is reversing the ground on it and confusing it when its open and closing

Electrical problems are best diagnosed when you have electrical schematics.

Besides, if you know that the indicator is showing opposite the actual condition, and it works that way reliably, what's wrong?

What year and trim level is your car?

There probably is something wrong with the trunk latch switch.

Basically, the trunk latch switch turns the trunk light on/off. There are two terminals on the switch, which connects to a 2-P connector, the terminal prongs on the switch are shaped in different directions, so that it cannot be connected the wrong way. The 2-P switch connector wires run through the underhood fuse/relay box, protected by the No. 37 (7.5A) fuse, to the trunk light assembly and bulb (3.4w).

The trunk latch switch is held by the 3 bolts. There also is a lock rod, which can be disconnected by rotating the plastic clip off the rod.

The pic is a 95 EX. The problem most likely is related to the trunk latch switch.

Basically, when the trunk is open, the switch should close the contacts and the light turns on; consequently, when the trunk is closed, the switch circuit should be open/broken and the light is off. (Your car, the switch is doing the opposite.)
