Broken Kaaz differential
I was running at the track and after a pass i turned off onto the return road and the passenger axle popped out of the tranny. We towed it back to the pitts and jacked it up, i checked the axle out, seemed fine, it popped right back into the diff and was tight, so i thought it just might have not been in properly as we had the tranny out the night before, so i went up for another pass. At the end of the run the same thing happened, the axle popped out, so we just put it on the trailer and brought it home. Dissasembled the tranny and found this.........
I'm not quite sure how it happened, but i called Kaaz to see if i could buy the top part that was broken, and they said no, but after me kind of bugging them, they said that he would take one off the shelf and take it apart and sell the pieces as they could sell the kit inside for a rebuild kit and sell me the case to make up the difference, sounds fine right, well i never heard back from them, and i've sent a wack of emails and called a few times and no response. Even emailed Kaaz japan and no one got back to me. The stupid thing about it all is that they said that they have seen it before with the B-series units and judging by the way it broke free, it looks like there is a problem with the design or material process.
Anyway, i have no diff, i am running the stock diff now and it sucks, spins waaaay too much, so if anyone has a fuct Kaaz unit or even just a piece of the case to get me back going, let me know, i don't want to have to spend $800 on a new complete when mine works fine. The part number of the diff is DBH-1832
A buddy of mine also broke a Kaaz diff in his integra H22 turbo and had no luck getting warranty or repairs done, would have cost more in the end to get it fixed, so he bought a different setup. I even took mine to a machine shop and they said they could repair it, but could not guarantee it would last, said it would break again.................any ideas

Had the same problem a few years ago then we restack the clutch pack to make it less aggressive and that fixed it.

Need more info on your setup? Suspension, tire pressure, alignment? I ran 1.7's on a open diff. numerous times. 2.3 is shitty!

Re: Broken Kaaz differential (ANTILAG)
Best part of it all is the guy from Kaaz said the only diffs they have a problem with are B-series diffs, but yet they haven't fixed the problem...

Re: Broken Kaaz differential (ANTILAG)
24.5" slicks, ETD traction bars, i had stock integra shock combos on the front for slick clearance, and the rear was stock with lowering springs. The motor has 412 whp and 286 wtq SAE, the car is a 2000 civic sedan, i was running 15 psi in the slicks then a buddy of mine ran 12 and 10 psi but the track conditions were different, i ran a higher MPH but it was different tracks. I have to find out something before the 11th of August, its the big import event up here

i had a kaaz in a b16 tranny on my 2.1L n/a car.....it lasted OK for me...i pulled some 1.9 60's on 185/65/14's....but, as soon as i sold the tranny...it lasted another week and took a **** on the guy i sold it too. i felt REAL shitty.....but, if everyone else has these issues, it makes me feel not-so-shitty

SOHC Z6 on 100 shot, 22x8x13 M&H's at 11 psi, launching at 7800 rpm with a 12 lb flywheel......
oops........
Ray quoted me $275 + S&H for a clutch pack, or I can do a OBX for $350 shipped.
Of the 18+ OBX's I've installed, no breakage yet.

Re: (oscarmayer)
Yeah...the Kaaz is just not drag material. I have done them for a handful of roadrace guys and no complaints but, when it comes to drag racing...they just don't hold up to well. They will also agree when you ask them. Get a Quaife and never look back. You can't beat their warranty. Don't cheap out. I am sure you have spent plenty of money on the engine...you can at least spend half of that on the transmission which is equally just as important...think about it. I may have a Kaaz case...let me go look!

Re: Broken Kaaz differential (PSI GUY)
when i first got my swap it had a Kaaz in it and was definitely not that streetable or enjoyable at low speed cornering but after it got going it wasn't bad. pulling in and out of my driveway and parking spots was murder...nose-hop and LOUD clunking. OBX's aren't bad for the price...but i'd see if i can get my hands on a Type R or a Quaife(what i have now).
after more than 7 years on 1 Quaife ATB with NO issues...i know if i have any diff. problems again in the future....i know where my money will go.
i dunno if anybody else had any problems with the OBX diff. but a buddy of mine had one and then he busted something and we had to pull the axles...but couldn't get the axles out of the OBX equipped tranny. we ended up pulling the axles after the tranny got out of the car...that was not a fun time.

Re: Broken Kaaz differential (jz98ctr)
I have ran two different Kaaz diffs. Daily drove one of them for 2 years on a 200whp B-series engine. I know after two years the lock-up on my first diff wasn't as aggressive, I figured my clutch plates where a little worn. Quaife/OBX isn't aggressive enough for my driving style. I really want to try the new ATS LSD, all my friends who track their cars swear by it
