Default Dc2 Code P1359

got a check engine light so i took it to auto zone and it showed me p1359. i looked

up the code and it says:

P1359 CKP/TDC Sensor Connector Disconnection

P1359 Crankshaft Position (CKP)/Top Dead Center (TDC) Sensor Circuit Malfunction

what does this mean? my car drives fine and starts fine. only thing that happened

yesterday was that the negative wire that hooks up to my battery was loose and

the car wouldnt start but i tightened it and now it starts fine. is this something i

should be concerned about? what can i do to fix it?

You'll probably need a distributor subassembly (not a whole distributor!), or clean and crimp the CKP sensor connections inside the distributor assembly. It happens on Honda's all the time. You will probably see a decrease in performance and mileage. On the the ones I have fixed, the customer has only driven a few days with the code set, so I don't know exactly what will happen over time. It probably will not run.

how would one clean and crimp the CKP sensor connections inside the distributor assembly. is it easy to do?
whats the worse that could happen with this code?
how much would it cost if i take it to the mechanic?

It is easy to do. You have to take the distributor off the head and remove the cap & rotor and the igniter. Disconnect the CKP sensor and clean the connections with alcohol. You give the wire connector a little squeeze with needle nose to make the connection tight, then reassemble. The TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) on it gives step by step instructions, which you would have to get from the dealer. "The Mechanic" meaning anyone other than a dealer technician wouldn't know squat about it (and tell you you need a whole distributor). If you take it anywhere, take it to a Honda dealer. If the connection repair doesn't work, then you will need a distributor subassembly.

I'm not sure what either operation costs. With the connection crimping I'm pretty sure they will charge for and hour labor. For replacing the subassembly it is about an hour labor plus parts. Labor rates and parts prices vary from dealer to dealer. I think it is still less than the cost of a whole new distributor (again, which you don't need).

This is a common Problem with the civic. You have a bare wire going to the crank position sensor. You can either replace the sensor or strip the wires, apply some heat scrink tubing for insulation, soldier the wires together again apply some electrical tape then reinstall.
Note:Make sure you move the wires behind the alternator support brace so you do not have this problem again.
