Default Which import cars have timing chains?

Co-worker is looking for a used car in the $5k - $7k range.

We are thinking of one with a timing chain in order to avoid costly belt replacements....

Keeping it honda / toyota / nissan.

all suggestions are appreciated.

I wouldn't base the purchase of a car on whether or not it has timing belts or chains. Most timing belt jobs aren't *too* involved. Get a helms and do it yourself, base your car choice on more important things like seating, power, fuel economy, babe factor, etc...

I think you would have to buy like a 1960's-70's model to get somthing with a chain on it. I believe they stopped using chains because they stretch over time.

VW vr6 motors have chains. Also Alfa Romeo 2.0L motors have chains. They are a PIA to do though.

I was always under the impression chains were more of a pain in the *** and more costly then belts. I can't tell if this post is a joke or not, because I can't believe that anyone would shop for a car with that being their main requirement.

You never have to change the timing chain.

As compared to the loving snapping timing belts.

seriously? you're supposed to do them every 100k. They're known to start making noise and then they can snap, just like a belt.
