Default Just picked up an EK that had been sitting, need some help!!!

Found a great deal on a 1998 Civic EX Coupe... Auto

Anyways it will be the perfect DD for my sister as she wants to sell her 1995 Accord V6.

So the car had been sitting for about 6 months it stopped starting around 5 months ago. I primed it today, then hooked up some jumper cables to my 2005 Pilot and let the pilot idle for 10 minutes then attempted to start. It turned over after a few tries, and then died with a horrible squeeling from what I assumed to be the alternator belt. Then I got it to turn over again, and it idled for about 15-20 seconds with the horrible squeel, then I saw some smoked, and the alternator belt snapped. The belt was dry rotted to **** when I looked it it after it snapped. It must have been semi loose in the first place I feel. I will have to take off the PS, then A/C belt to get to it, I plan on replacing all three with some OEM belts from Honda. My question is:

How hard is it to take out the alternator on the EK to have it tested at Advanced or Autozone?

How hard is it to replace these three accesory belts. Any tips on the actual replacement process? Is there a how to in the FAQ? I didn't look there yet

Thanks Guys

If the belts were dry-rotted then that is the problem. When you do the belts check to see if the alt pulley spins freely.

Sorry, no help on the order of replacement or tips I haven't worked on that year yet.

Good luck and a bump for you.

the replacement of the belts is pretty easy, it's all just untighten this bolt and tighten that bolt. The bad news is that you might have to pull an axle to get to the alternator. I think that's what i had to do with my car.

I will have to see if the alternator is seized or not. That is definitely my next step. Don't know why I didn't check for that yesterday

ill save you the trouble without looking myself , it is , lol. a good thing to do for you people who arent sure , when starting an engine after its been sitting for a long time , is take each plug out , pour a couple ounces of oil into each cylinder and reinstall plug. will lube walls for the first turn and until oil pumps again.
