Automatic D16Z6 ECU Questions
Hello. I am new to Honda-Tech
I am swapping a D16Z6 engine and Auto tranny into my Automatic 94 Civic LX; however, I have questions regarding the ECU:
I currently have an Auto P06 ECU.
1- Can I convert it to an AUTO P28 ECU? (install VTEC components, etc...I know you can do this with manual P06 or convert the P06 to Manual and do this but I want to know for staying AUTOMATIC.)
2- Could I just install the VTEC components and run the ECU as is?
3- If I can't convert it, can I safely run the stock P06 ECU until I can find an AUTO P28 or would this be advised against?
4- Can you safely drive a VTEC engine without VTEC engaging? It never occurred to me before and wouldn't be long term...I guess this goes along with question 3.
5- Anyone selling a reasonably priced Auto P28?
It's a totally stock engine. I probably won't even do i/h/e. I just wanted an upgrade from the weak Non-VTEC D15B and now I'll probably finish the swap later today and I'll wire it for VTEC but I need to know what to do about the ECU.
Obviously, I don't know much about ECUs (especially automatic) but I'm trying to learn. Any help/tips are much appreciated!
Thanks!
PS: I do NOT want to convert this car to manual so please don't suggest it.

Re: Automatic D16Z6 ECU Questions (That Guy 32)
Nobody knows anything? Does anybody know if I can at least use the stock P06 safely until I can find an Auto P28?
Hoping to have this running by tomorrow.

I have a 94 Civic DX it came with a 1.5 non-Vtec D15B2. I did a mini "SW" and I put a 1.6 D16z6 Vtec head and a p28 in it and I still have to hook up the Vtec it seems to run fine. As for the P06 Im sorry no help with that.

Search on here or Hondaswap and find the thread about how to decipher the ECU code. Then go on ebay and order yourself an automatic P28.
1. I don't know/care.
2. You don't understand what "VTEC components are". The motor will have a VTEC solenoid. You need to run two wires from it to your P28 ECU.
3. Yes.
4. Yes.
5. Ebay. They're usually a little cheaper than manual ECUs because people are stupid.
