Alright the way I cracked them loose on my ek was by heating up the axle nut notch with a propane torch, then generously lubing it with some patented LIQUID WRENCH SUPER PENETRANT (I swear by this stuff), waited for like 5min (grabbed a brew), then used the standard breaker bar to crack it. I'm jus wondering whats the easiest solution for the home mechanic, and how your axle nut experiences went!

after you change them once, you dont need to worry about it sticking again

Although if air doesnt do it i have my good friend Jimbo (30lb galvanized steel pipe) and he always gets the job done.... or atleast breaks my ratchets in the process

I use the same thing it works real good or use an impact

I hire chuck norris to come over and simply stare down the axle nut until it just falls off.

Or PB-blaster, propane torch, and 4' breaker bar should do it.

Best way over anyhting.. Impact gun

stick a screwdriver in the rotor and push that against the caliper, it'll lock the axle.

yea just put a screw driver in there and get a long breaker bar and a 32 mm and crack that **** loose!!

you dont have to do that if you lossen them up with the wheels on and the car on the ground

sometimes its really stuck in there good and the car will just rock forward or back. This way you don't put the transaxle under any stress, and i highly doubt you'll do any damage to the brakes.

i had someone hold the brakes, then i took a breaker bar with a 4' pipe on it.

and i jumped...and jumped, and jumped...fell and busted my shin....jumped some more, then it popped loose...and i fell and busted my shin again.

it was painful...but worked.

I have a electric impact that has got off i'd say 20 or so axle nuts with no problems. Air is best if you have it.

I just replaced my passenger axle this morning but I wanted to tell my story.

1. tried my breaker bar which i've had forever and have done about 15 axles with with success but broke on this time around w/ 4ft leverage bar on my 96 hatch. ******* sprained my thumb to when i broke. Hard to use my thumb with my sidekick now.... Grrrrrr......

2. woke up this morning and tried my $500 craftsman compressor with my impact wrench. NO LUCK! Wasn't pushing enough ft/lbs i guess.

3, was gonna goto sears to buy another breaker bar and 6 sided 1-1/4 inch drive instead of the 16 sided one that came with my tool set but decided to goto my local tire store and they loosened it for me. first they tried there normal impact for tires but no go. then they tried a breaker bar that was twice as big as mine...no go... then he brought out this big MAMA impact gun. it loosened it. He did it for free but i gave them 4 bux that i had in my wallet for helping me.

This was the first time i had this much problems with an axle nut.
