Why not just have honda do it isnt the new honda tranny fluid a free upgrade due to the gay notchy issues ? I figured someone would say this, and yes YOUR dealership may perform a trans fluid change for you, free of charge probably. My reasons for NOT taking it to the dealership: The trans fluid I had was free. I prefer to do all work on my own car... puts my mind at ease. Dont trust the kids at the dealership with my keys and car. Dont want it getting scratched, washed, rims curbed, etc. Dont feel like convicing the service manager that it needs new fluid. I refuse to give my local dealership any business as I used to work there and despise the GM AND the service manager(if you can even call him that.) Basically I know how things operate at my particular Honda dealership and would never take my car there for anything. I'm willing to drive 2 hours just to get warranty work done, and yes thats something I've done before. This thread is for people who want to do it themselves, especially those wanting to "get away" with using aftermarket fluid. hey guys, noob to honda-tech and cars in general kinda. i'd like to hear more about why dealerships suck. i'm always paranoid. the service tech i'm friendly w/ at my dealership said he wasn't aware of the the newly formulated honda mtf. usually he's on top of it, and is aftermarket friendly as well. is there any info showing honda acknowledging the 3rd gear issue, or any info showing dealerships swapping the mtf for free? i'd like to take it in w/ me, maybe i can get this done at no cost, other than the synthetic fluid i'm buying. i'm planning on taking my '07 fg2 in to have honda do it, but i'm planning on bringing in 2qts of amsoil synchromesh. 5w-30 is what we use right? is there any reason i would need more than 2qts? thanks |

I went to my stealership and the parts man was like -9016 and the -9031 are the same fluids. He claims there was no change to the fluid on a part# change. I call BS!

I just changed my automatic transmission fluid, and man does it shift from 1st to 2nd gear a TON better. It shifted real hard before I changed it. I used Honda Genuine automatic transmission fluid it was model # ATF-Z1, I believe. It was like $7 or so a bottle. It only took 2.5 quarts to fill it. The whole transmission holds 2.9 quarts and so that means about .4 quarts of old fluid was still in there. I'm going to change it again in about 2 oil changes just to get even more of the old fluid out of there. Also it is so easy to change. Just take out the plug let it drain and add new fluid. It is easier then an oil change. Always use Honda ATF fluid though it might be like $2-3 more a quart but it is worth it to know your using the right fluid. Thanks!
