Re: 1996 HONDA ACCORD EX OIL FILTER LOCATION (PREACHERBREW)
The oil filter is located on the back of the block. When under the car, look up the back of the block past the half-shaft and you'll see it.
I buy my oil and filters at Honda.
1. unbolt the drain bolt from the oil pan, drain all oil.
2. Using a oil filter wrench, strap wrench, ect, remove the oil filter. (be careful, oil will spill down the back of the block, be sure to clean that up.
3. wipe engine surface where oil filter mounts, lube the threads of the new oil filter, put the new filter on, tighten it to 16 lbs-ft if you have a sized filter socket or just turn the filter 7/8 of a turn once you feel the filter come into contact with the mounting surface.
4. put the drain bolt back in the oil pan with a new crush ring, tighten it to 33 lbs-ft.
5. remove oil cap from valve cover and add oil.

Re: (The-Kid)
Pretty much summed it all up in the above posts. I put the filters on hand tight. You can usually still get them off with your hand if you have to but sometimes when they are put on a at a shop or something you have to use a wrench. The shop I worked at we all put them on hand tight. Make sure the old gasket comes off with the filter and put some oil around the gasket on the new filter and screw back on. My 96 EX takes 5 quarts of oil. My general rule of thumb is to put 4 in then fire it up until the oil light goes off then shut it down. You do this so the filter will fill up. Otherwise if you do it without starting it you get a inaccurate reading. Then I check the dipstick and fill accordingly. This way you don't overfill it.
