Default Help, i just got arrested for reckless driving and speed contest in calif...!!

As of right now, my life seems to be fading away. sorry but this will be long. about 3 hours ago, i was placed under arrest for racing(but not really racing). it's kind of hard to explain, but you'll soon see what i mean. well, i was going around a corner, when i lost control of my car, and i started to go into a slide, so basically, picture your car sliding perpendicular to the road for 100 yards. and on the opposite side or oncoming traffic, there's a police officer seeing that you are sliding pass his patrol car, nearly missing him. i was traveling close to say 90mph. and the car that i was supposedly "racing", was merely a car going by, which happened to be lowered etc. this has never happened to my car before, and so i dont know why it locked up like that. so....all that being said, he cited me for reckless driving and speed contest, and impounded my car. right now, i dont know what to do...i admit i did wrong, but i need someone to shed some light on what i can do. honestly, i dont want to lose my job, cause my job involves driving. but i am fearing that i will get my license suspended and or jail time. so...here's what i need help on:

1. should i hire a lawyer or a public defender? if so, can someone give me an estimate of cost?
2. will i get my license revoked or suspended, based on my charges right now?
3. is it possible to work out some deal, at the time of my trial, to see if i can still keep my license, only for work though, since my work requires driving?
4. in all honesty, i felt like due to my car, having a mechanical problems, causing it to lock up and slide like the way it did, made the officer felt like i was recklessly driving, and the fact that another acura drove by at that exact moment, made it seemed like i was racing as well? is there some way i can prove this?

i appreciate any views, please if you dont have nothing nice to say, dont say anything. honestly, i feel like i am sort of singled out due to my car problem. thank you

People don't just lose traction and go into spins out of no where. More likely than not, they were speeding or driving recklessly. You may not have been racing the other car, but from the sounds of it, you were driving like a dumbass.

That's what I was thinking. You just don't slide 100 yards out of nowhere when going straight down the road/freeway (even if it's raining), unless you are quickly changing lanes, swerving, etc.

I would suggest you talk to a lawyer first. Call up your local bar association, tell them what kind of case it is, and they'll refer you a lawyer. Then, you can get some free consultation time and ask your questions.

you're an idiot..

anyway, get a lawyer, you still may be in deep shit with one, but without one you'll be worse off. it'll most definitely be over $1k.

you wont get your license revoked until you get a letter from your state DOT affirming it.

but even if you weren't racing, you were obviously still driving recklessly. you're not ****ed for life, keep your head up

Why not put yourself in his shoes right now? People don't need others bringing him down in times of need.

I like to give the benefit of the doubt to a lot of situations but 2 things throw me off...I understand the concept of bail but why exactly would you come on Honda-Tech just 3 hours after being arrested for something so serious? I mean that last thing on my mind would be asking here, there's plenty of lawyers that will offer free consultation.

My second thing to point out is the same as others have stated, you shouldn't have been doing 90 on a public road anyway, the highest speed limit that I have seen in the U.S. thus far is 75, maybe I don't have a lot of experience but that's fairly high for a public road in my opinion. My thoughts are that you were going down the road, saw another car that had "mods" done to it, you wanted to be a punk tough-ass and did a "fly by" to it and sped off, you lost control and it happened to catch up on you when you went around your bend. That's my OPINION and no I DO NOT KNOW what actually happened.

As far as actual advice goes and not just calling bullshit, get a lawyer for sure, this isn't something as minor as getting a parking ticket or a speeding ticket for doing 55 in a 45, these are some serious charges and even if you can get out of loosing you license and possible jail time, have REAL good luck getting you vehicle back. If you have anything done to it they probably will auction it off out of state. I would think the most you can hope for is for lesser charges such as fines. But a suspension of your license sounds like a probability as well if you're found to be guilty.

Anyways, if he had been going the speed limit, I'm willing to bet that he would've gotten the exact same tickets. Accidents happen, you'd probably get off with a fine and driving school. But 90 > speed limit.

Sorry buddy.

Honda-Tech is more of a Prosecutor, than Criminal Defense.
