Default Turbo CBR F4

I've got a TD04 I want to try to put on a 99 CBR F4 and run about 4psi.

Does anybody have any good info or write up on a DIY turbo on a carbureted engine? I dont know anything about carburetors. How do I get more fuel, just get bigger jets (whatever that is Click the image to open in full size. )

Anybody know someone that can make a turbo manifold for me in the DFW area?

I also have a turbo manifold for a d-series engine... will this work? Or at least be good to use to modify it to it to work?

Oh man, like stated before "Good Luck!"

First off, the F4 is carbureted which is a problem in itself. the boost pressure wont allow fuel to be drawn in so you need to run a vacuum (boost) line to equalize the pressure so you can get fuel. next, tuning will be tough, the TD04 is prob too big but then again I dont know what TD04 you have and I dont know approx what the TD04s flow lb wise. The D-series manifold will not bolt up, you could mod the stock header but it would be better to just start from scratch. You prob wont need an intercooler because its only 4 lbs that your planning on. Whatever the case, it would be pretty bad *** if you finished it. another down side to a turboed sport bike is that if it spools up mid corner your back tire can get over powered and slide out. I would recommend turboing a fuel injected bike. better tuning and far easier to do.

Thanks for the replies... Yeah it will take some time, but thought it would be cool if I get it finished. It wonít be super fast, it will be slower than an R1. Unless I get brave enough to raise the boost. I'm only expecting about 20-30 extra hp. Itís the 15g turbo from a 92-95 civic ex/si GReddy kit.

I read somewhere about occasional spike. I found some cool electric pressure sensor here at work. If it sees a spike in pressure it will open a release valve. You have program the ramp speed, if it doesnít reach the ramp speed in specified time or sees a drop in pressure it can send an alarm. At least thatís how I think it works. Maybe I can get lucky and score one, and try it out.

I found an old thread from another site, someone mention Mr. Turbo put a turbo on '99 F4 a couple years back. So it looks doable. I found their number on his site. I'll give him a call and see if he will loan me some secrets. Especially about the fuel problem.

if all your looking for is 20-30 extra hp, take that money that your going to spend turboing the F4 sell it and just get a liter bike....
it seems like a waste of time and money to me...

If a liter bike is out of the question and your only looking for 20-30hp why not just go with a small shot of nitrous. Alot less work then fabbing up a turbo setup.

A liter bike is kinda out of the question... I would love to get one, but a new bike is expensive, even a used liter bike thatís in good shape is expensive. My bike is pretty messed up.. I've had a few spills and so has my brother. But the engine is pretty good, just a lot of faring damage and scratches. I got the bike a couple years ago for $4K with 16K miles. It has over 45K miles, I think I could only sell it for $1.5K if I'm lucky. Itís worth a lot more to me than that, so I'm going to keep it.

Plus I have an addiction to modifying things. I can't help to try to improve things even though I usually make it worse Click the image to open in full size. The nitrous sounds like a more reasonable answer. But it's nice having power I donít have to refill or hit a button to turn it on. I'll see what info I can get from Mr. Turbo. I'm probably in over my head Click the image to open in full size.

I wouldnt talk to Terry at Mr Turbo. That place is a joke. I do agree with the nitrous option if you are only looking for small hp gains.

if your just out to make power why not (NOS) I'm no bike pro by any means, but I do know that it's easier to tune with carb's, do some research there is a few HD's out there with turbo's Click the image to open in full size.

In all seriousness, forget the idea. Save up the cash you'll spend on that set up and get a liter bike.

Nitrous is the best option if you absolutely HAVE to get some more power. However, if you're short enough on cash that you can't pick up a used 1000, one hiccup with the bottle on your F4 and you may have no bike at all to ride.

I remember back in the day, Dave at F1 dyno in Maine built a pretty nice turbo f3. Pictures and whatnot detailing the project have since been taken off but perhaps he can steer you in the right direction. It was a pretty clean build. http://www.f1dyno.com/
