but I found it pretty interesting for a rather mild build.

I never get the animosity between B and D series guys. Look at the OP's sig. Its ridiculous. Take a 1.6 SOHC vs a 1.6 DOHC. Theres absolutely no reason the SOHC shouldnt be able to produce the same power as the DOHC, yet some one screams triumphantly heroic when acheiving this goal.

I know of guys getting 500 horsepower NA with a single cam. Theyre 454 big block chevy's, but hey only one cam, so it must be some huge achievement, right?

'flow abilities' ? I think you just made that term up. Flow capacity, maybe. And yes i know plenty about the construction of internal combustion engines. What would you like to know? Would you like to hear how some SOHC heads outflow their DOHC partners?

To the OP, sorry i dragged it off topic, but your sig was just screaming for this convo. I'll stop it here and try to contribute something constructive to this thread.

as a matter of fact i did make the word up. i was simply referring to the ability to flow air/fuel to the cylinders...and no matter what work you do on a sohc head, the same work can be done to a dohc and get similar/better results. im sure you're going to lecture me on how a y8 will outflow a LS head, blah blah blah, you would be comparing the cream of the crop to the bottom of the line. im not agaisnt d-series but i am also not stupid on knowing H-K-B-F(s2000) motors will plateau much higher. d-series are for hardcore people to build, me? i simply drive them stock because of their amazing ability to move a car (quickly, on top of that) and that i can get a full swap for under 300$

Hey combustion contraption, can you be more specific when you say some d-heads outflow b-heads? Are you saying if valve size were increased, or bone stock? Also, I love when someone decides to build a fast n/a sohc and then says "I just wanted to prove to the world that sohc can hang" as if people are going to wake up and say "Well he certainly schooled me, I am going to have to throwout everything I thought--thank god for that guy" I built up my a6 because originally the car I bought (way back in 98) came with some headwork so I added a very aggresive cam, and it completly floored me with how quick it was--it just sort of snowballed from there--plus at the time, a swap was alot of money and then more money (that I didn't have) to modify. Sohc just made sense for me--plus as mentioned before they do have more potential than some people realize.

thats what im trying to say i turned to sohc motors cuz of there potential and there inexpensive. most people just swap out the sohc for a dohc because they dont no how effective a sohc motor can be if you give it time. i choose a sohc because i love being the underdog, i love being told it cant be done. but then again aslong as theres sohc haters that means more sohc motors for us
