Squealing / screeching noise when accelerating with the air conditioner turned on
Whenever I accelerate on my 1999 4-door Accord LX, there's a squealing/screeching noise that comes out from the engine. If I let go of the gas pedal, the noise stops. This only happens during the first few revs AND when the air conditioner is turned on. The air conditioner runs perfectly fine and the car seems to be accelerating normally.
What seems to be the problem? Thanks!

Check to see if you belt is loose.
To check the tension, locate the part of the belt thats between the alternator pulley and crank pulley. Push on it with a decent amount of force and see how much it deflects. On a used belt it should deflect about 3/8" and on a new belt it should deflect about 1/4".
Also check for worn, dried, cracked and small stones in the grooves of the belt.

How old is the belt? Old belts get harder & a little more slippery. You have to over-tighten them in order to stop it from slipping. So maybe that's it, even if the belt LOOKS good & has no cracks or obvious damage.
