Default NRG Tech B-series catch pan

In lieu of the new catch pan rule this year, we decided to make one. Last week we installed a engine diaper and made a tranny catch pan for a car just so that it would be able to run this past weekend at E-town. Anybody who has used the diaper is aware of how much of PITA it is! Unfortunetly we did not have this pan for this past weekend. After seeing other cars at the track, how they adapted to the rule, seeing differant setups, we decided to make our own.

As of right now this is a one-off piece. This is something we are comtemplating into making into a bolt-up kit. The motor is sitting in stock loacation and the downpipe is a 4" which is tucked up against the oil pan. The main thing we wanted out of this pan was easy removal/installation. I think it worked. Opinions/questions?

I want to make one of these but right now, my car running comes first. I guess I could make one now tho, it will catch all the tools and parts I keep droping lol.

Nice work. Shouldn't it cover more tho? Maybe not IDK. Mainly on the rear side, 3rd pic down. ??

Would oil leak from the quick release holes (4)? Also... if a motor let go, I could see one of these trays holding up some of the fragments.. but theres no way that thing is going to hold 4-5 quarts of oil... Nice design and I'm sure it will pass tech, but do you agree?

Other people in the class were running very similar pans. I know of one person who lost their Tranny drain plug and we saw some oil on the pavement, was able to catch it quickly. All good, the pan was very similar in design and depth

these pans and all pans will not stop an oil down if you put a 6" hole in your engine. these meet what the NHRA has asked for and that is to catch oil oil and fluids on small breaks.

would they work better if they had an absorbent pad in the bottom?

a pad will help absorb, but when your at 100mph plus and you put a rod through the block the air entering the engine compartment is gonna blow the oil everywhere. even with an RCI engine blanket type setup you will still have a minor amount of oil down. i undertand where the NHRA is coming from with this rule and totally agree. more time racing less time cleaning up.

I was thinking of a liner that would be held down by some sort of grid.
