Default People w/ Hi-Comp LS-VTEC with no knock sensor, get up in hurr.

What do you guys do about pinging with high compression? Run a separate knock computer? Also, is it even worth the work to run the factory knock sensor? I plan on running a GSR head with P30 pistons in a B18B1 block and from what i've read that should put at 11.8:1. That just seems like a little much to be running without any kind of knock control. Thanks in advance.

So i guess there isn't really anything to worry about. Just figured i would need something to pull my timing if by chance it decides to knock. Is the stock knock sensor useless anyways? Sorry i'm just not that brave... well, without any knowledge on the subject.

The main reason honda put a knock sensor on there cars was to protect against misfueling. Put in the right fuel for your compression and you should not have a problem. If the car was a 87 octane car there was no need for the sensor. Dan

Of course, I realize that. Just wanted to know if i would be better off with it for my setup, or if it really isn't needed. Thanks for all your help.

im doing the same thing. do 95 ls blocks come with knock sensors? also, i dont have access to a tunable computer or a tuner to tune it. could i get by with just an adjustable fpr and a/f ratio guage?

Nah dude, you'd be wasting your time. Buy that guys S200 a few posts up rather than a guage that pretty much just lights up. Or get a wideband sensor!
